This July, Our House and Our Kids have signed up for Dry July and we’re saying a non-alcoholic cheers to supporting local people affected by cancer.

By going dry, we’re raising vital funds to help cancer patients and their families across our region. Every dollar raised helps provide accommodation, comfort and support during what can be an incredibly difficult time.

Together, we can help make the journey a little easier for local families needing treatment away from home.

HOUSEKEEPER AT OUR HOUSE
We are looking for a casual housekeeper at Our House (motel). We are a medical accommodation service in Lismore.

“Our House is a fun and caring place to work”

We are looking for people who enjoy cleaning, have an excellent eye for detail and have compassion for people going through a difficult time in their lives. This position involves looking after our guests by cleaning their rooms and our common areas. As many of our guests are undergoing medical treatment our housekeeping staff are much more than cleaners.

We are offering 15 to 20 hrs per week Monday to Friday. Further shifts will be offered to cover for weekends, holidays and illness when needed.

We have a small happy team dedicated to the comfort of our guests. Our Housekeepers enjoy our work environment with all employees in this role so far staying with us for years.
Previous cleaning experience is an advantage.

A police check is required for this role.

Meet Dave 💛

Originally from Greymouth, New Zealand, Dave now calls Tabulam home – working across the Northern Rivers as a tree planter, pruner and all-round tree specialist.
Recently, Dave stayed at Our House for six weeks while undergoing chemotherapy and daily radiation.

Coming from the bush, he brought a special piece of home with him – his jukebox.

“The room was great… but the staff became the highlight. They’ve been incredibly helpful and wonderful to talk to during my stay.”

The meals were another favourite – especially the BBQs. “You can’t beat a BBQ,” Dave said.

But Dave’s journey hasn’t been easy.

During the 2019 bushfires, flames came within 2.5 kilometres of his home. Fire crews helped save his property, while many others were lost. Two weeks later, Dave had to chainsaw his way out, with a helicopter searching overhead to check he was safe.

More recently, after noticing something wasn’t right, Dave went to the doctor and was diagnosed with lung and bowel cancer.

Through it all, Our House became a place of comfort during treatment, somewhere to rest, connect and feel supported.

Before this, Dave had never heard of Our House… but now?

“I’ll be telling everyone about it.”

Our House family and friends, we are looking for a local donor or business to sponsor a yearly Netflix subscription, totalling $1,600.

Many of our guests spend extended periods of time in their rooms while recuperating, recovering, and healing during medical treatment. Having access to entertainment and familiar comforts can make a difficult season just a little easier.
