This World MS Day, we are highlighting the importance of bringing lived experience and research together.

Milan, who lives with multiple sclerosis, is working with Dr Belinda Kaskow and Professor Allan Kermode at Perron Institute to support research that reflects the realities of MS, including the symptoms that are often hidden from view.

This year, Milan raised over $12,000 for MS research to increase awareness of the invisible symptoms many people with MS manage every day. Fatigue, pain, cognitive changes and other hidden impacts can significantly affect quality of life, even when they are not obvious to others.

For researchers, lived experience helps sharpen the questions that matter most. For people living with MS, research offers the possibility of better understanding, better treatments and better quality of life.

World MS Day is a reminder that progress depends on both: the people who live with MS, and the researchers working to change the future of the disease

"With incredible sadness, we acknowledge the passing of the great Neale Daniher AO," said Perron Institute CEO Steve Arnott. "As co-founder and Patron of Fight MND, he has been instrumental in raising awareness of this cruel disease. FightMND has raised over $115 million for research and care equipment for people living with MND.

Neale said 'it's not what you say, it's what you do.' His actions and significant impact have positively affected the lives of many and his outstanding legacy will live on."

Prof Anthony Akkari, head of MND research at the Perron Institute and Personalised Medicine Centre, Murdoch University said: "Neale Daniher is a hero, especially for our MND research team in WA. FightMND has supported our research over several years and we are incredibly grateful.
We carry his passion and drive forward - to develop innovative and creative ways to develop treatments for people with MND and their families."

In his famous words,
'Play on, and together - we will Fight the Beast!'

On World Pharmacogenetics (PGx) Awareness Day, we’re excited to share that the PGx-ADAPT team is developing a new pharmacogenetics training course for GPs, aimed at supporting more personalised antidepressant prescribing for young people.

Co-designed by a dedicated team of scientists, rural and metro GPs, psychiatrists, and patients with lived experience, this course supports the safe, ethical, and evidence-informed use of PGx-guided antidepressant prescribing in primary care.

Through flexible modules, case-based learning, and practical workflow tools, we aim to build GP confidence and capability, supporting more personalised, patient-centred mental health care across Western Australia.

The PGx-ADAPT team is backed by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and led by the Perron Institute and The University of Western Australia. The course is still in development, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.
