Children aged 12 years and under are invited to put their creativity to work and help name the 11 giant cranes helping build the new Women and Babies Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital expansion,

Names are needed for the:
🏗️ 8 cranes at the new Women and Babies Hospital site at Murdoch
🏗️ 3 cranes at Osborne Park Hospital

Crane-y McCrane Face? Constructo? Cranosaurus? The possibilities are sky high!

To enter, kids simply need to suggest a crane name and explain why they chose it.

The cranes are playing an important role in delivering the New Women and Babies Hospital Project, which will expand services and choice for women, newborns and families across Western Australia.

Entries close at 5 pm, Friday 13 November.

As we approach our annual employee Go the Extra Mile Awards, we are shining a spotlight on some of our incredible finalists.

🧵✨ The Osborne Park Hospital Sewing Group are finalists in the Volunteer of the Year category of the 2026 GEM Awards.

With skill, creativity and plenty of heart, the Sewing Group are recognised for creating handmade items that support patients and clinical teams across Osborne Park Hospital.

Working closely with allied health staff, the volunteers not only sew a range of specialised resources, but also help design and develop many of their own patterns to meet the unique needs of patients and services.

The group's creativity, generosity and dedication have made a meaningful difference to patients, families and staff across the hospital.

Thank you to the Osborne Park Hospital Sewing Group for everything you do and for continuing to go the extra mile. 👏✨

Congratulations to Principal Workforce Information Analyst Gabriela, our latest Corporate Employee of the Season for Djilba. 🌿🌸

Gabriela was recognised for the initiatives and systems she developed to support our staff vaccination program as well as her passion and dedication help support our staff to deliver the best possible care to our patients.

A bundle of joy? Make that a whole lot of bundles! 🩷🩵

We had a baby boom across North Metropolitan Health Service this week, as our teams at King Edward Memorial and Osborne Park Hospitals welcomed an incredible 34 babies in just 24 hours on Thursday, the most births in a 24-hour period in recent times.

👶 3 sets of twins
💜 And a whole lot of joy

Congratulations to all the new and extended families, including Lucy and Anthony pictured with baby Daisy.

Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group Senior Critical Care Dietitian Bianca Mammana has recently undertaken a research project to help critically unwell patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) get the nutrition they need.

The project has led the implementation of indirect calorimetry devices being used in the ICU to tailor nutrition to individual needs, minimise energy deficits or excesses, and provide safer, more precise, best-practice nutritional care.

Bianca has spent much of her career caring for some of the sickest patients in the hospital and looking for ways to optimise their nutrition.

She said that despite the highly precise and personalised care provided in intensive care, nutrition was often based on estimates rather than what a patient actually needed.

Our teams across Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital recently held events for Medication Safety Week to showcase the importance of medication safety awareness. 💊😎☝️

The events were held to increase awareness of the importance of adverse drug reaction reporting and recording processes among both staff and consumers, during Medication Safety Week.

Information stands, resources and interactive activities were held across some of our sites and teams tested their knowledge via an online medication safety competition.

Congratulations to SCGH G61 and OPH Ward 5 who both won the medication safety competition. 👏

Yesterday BreastScreen WA hosted its 21st annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast held annually during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to celebrate the achievements of the service and hear stories from inspirational women. 🩷🩷

The Minister for Heath, Meredith Hammat MLA joined 140 attendees at the event, where they heard inspiring speeches from breast cancer survivor Petrina Burnett, 2026 WA Australian of the Year Dr Daniela Vecchio and Fiona Campbell OAM, Creative Director, Perth Symphony Orchestra.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, women are being reminded of the importance of regular screening with one in seven women at risk of developing breast cancer.

Congratulations to Obstetrics and Gynaecology Resident Medical Officer, Maise on receiving the Women and Newborn Health Service Employee of the Season for Djilba. 🌼🌱

Maise was recognised for her can-do attitude and exceptional commitment to patient-centred care.

She is highly regarded for her support of patients undergoing cancer surgery as well as her commitment and dedication to helping her colleagues.

Congratulations Maise on this well-deserved recognition. 👏

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital's Hospital in the Home (HITH) service provides patients with the ability to receive inpatient care in the comfort of their own home. 🤗🏠

Under the new statewide process, patients across Perth and many country areas can receive care through HITH.

Patients receive the same level of care as when in hospital, and the service includes visits at their residence by the multidisciplinary team each day, and up to twice daily by nurses if required.

The multidisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and pharmacists.
