Many of us remember childhood visits to the library, borrowing armfuls of books and discovering whole new worlds on the shelves.
Today, libraries are still doing that work — supporting early literacy, lifelong learning, local history, digital access, research, and providing a welcoming space for people of all ages.
Kerry has recently retired after a long career in the library system and has been sharing some of the challenges facing public libraries, from funding pressures and ageing buildings to the rising cost of maintaining collections and services.
If you’d like to learn more, or simply show your support for Mackay’s library service, Kerry’s petition is available here at Kitten Vintage for anyone who would like to sign.
Whether you’re a lifelong reader, a parent encouraging a love of books, a family historian, or someone who simply values community spaces, libraries remain an important part of a healthy and connected community.
