Personal trainer pricing is the one thing most PTs get completely wrong, and being the cheapest trainer in the gym is not the flex you think it is.

Here’s my take: when a personal trainer competes on being cheap, it quietly tells every prospect “I’m not sure I’m worth more.” Price is a signal. A low one says you don’t back your own coaching, and it attracts the exact clients who haggle, cancel, and leave first.

If you want to charge more as a personal trainer and build a fitness business that actually pays you, you don’t need to be the cheapest. You need to be clear on the result you deliver and confident enough to put a real number on it. The best PTs and online coaches almost never win on price. They win on trust, results, and positioning.

Cheap isn’t a strategy. It’s a confidence problem wearing a discount.

🚨 RANT ALERT 🚨

As a Personal Trainer, you need to earn the right to “go fully online”.

Hours on the gym floor is the ONLY apprenticeship available to do a quality job online. You can’t skip it. You can’t avoid it.

Am I just jaded? Or have the “influencer” coaches with no qualifications led the industry astray? Let me know below 👇🏼

Most PTs don’t need a better price.

They need a better model.

Big upfront packages can look good on paper, but they often create the same problems:

Inconsistent cash flow.
Constant re-selling.
Clients dropping off after the package ends.
Pressure to find the next big sale.

Weekly recurring changes the game.

It makes it easier for clients to start, keeps revenue predictable, improves accountability, and gives you a business that compounds instead of constantly resetting.

If you’re still selling 6, 8, or 12 week packages, ask yourself this:

Are you building a business, or are you just restarting one every few months?

Comment “WEEKLY” and I’ll show you how I’d structure it.

Talent gets you noticed. Outworking and outlearning everyone is what actually builds the business. 💯

Here’s the thing most PTs miss: nearly everyone in this industry is willing to outwork. Early starts, late finishes, back-to-back sessions. Far fewer are willing to outlearn. To get good at the stuff no course ever taught you: sales, pricing, retaining clients, marketing yourself.

That’s the gap. The trainers who pull ahead aren’t the most qualified or the best connected. They’re the ones who refuse to stop getting better at the business, not just the training.

You don’t need permission, a big following, or the perfect setup. You need to outwork and outlearn the room. 📈

Be honest, which are you better at right now: outworking or outlearning? Drop it below 👇

Comment ‘GROW’ if you’re ready to start working on the business, not just in it.

This is the #1 reason why Personal Trainers FAIL. You can’t convince me otherwise… But you can try 😏

As this is a new account, why not give everyone a bit more of an insight into things you may not know about me - 15 fun facts for 15 years ☺️

1️⃣ I played professional cricket from a young age and luckily got a contract for NSW in 2010/11.

2️⃣ Bought my first house at the age of 24.

3️⃣ In 2013 I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a form of IBS. In remission at the moment but one of those things I’ll have to manage for life.

4️⃣ I was selected 13th man for Australia v India at the SCG in the match Michael Clarke got 329. Fielded for 3 overs at Bay 13 and got abused by the crowd for over 10 minutes.

5️⃣ Studied my Cert IV in fitness because I had to at the Cricket Academy in Brisbane. Lost my contract and fell in love with PT. Never looked back.

6️⃣ I’ve never broken a bone, had measles or chicken pox.

7️⃣ My wife and I met at the gym but it took Tinder to bring us together. My first memory of her was that she was gutsy enough to wear her pyjamas to the gym. 😂

8️⃣ A Townsville paper once referred to me as ‘The Next Shane Warne’ in a match against South Africa A. (Claim to fame)

9️⃣ It took me 3 weeks to get my first PT client. That’s what happens when a 19 year old tried to run a business with zero experience, training or support.

1️⃣0️⃣ I have done thousands of hours of PT and now mentored close to 300 Personal Trainers in the last 15 years.

1️⃣1️⃣ Now blessed to have 2 beautiful children. I always thought sport and fitness was my calling until I realised it was to be a Dad.

1️⃣2️⃣ I also run a podcast on SuperCoach, for those of you who love sport. We have nearly 10,000 subscribers on YouTube.

1️⃣3️⃣ I have two sausage dogs that love to dig up my lawn, and a cat that I’m allergic to 😅

1️⃣4️⃣ I spent the first 7 years of my fitness career at Fit n Fast gyms, progressing into Head of Personal Training for 18 locations nationally.

1️⃣5️⃣ Since moving to Anytime Fitness (best decision ever), I’ve turned 10 PT’s into 58, created a group training program that is in 24 gyms & built out a support and development system that rivals anything you’ll find in the country. (I’m biased)

If you’re a PT, follow along for more tips for growth!

You don’t need to be prim, proper and polished to sell personal training. If anything, you should be the opposite, because it shows you’re a human being.

People buy from people they like, and people they trust. And I’m pretty sure no-one would buy anything from a politician so stop acting like the pricks.

Got to run our first PT meeting face to face in over 15 months on Friday and it reminded me how much I missed the group interaction and atmosphere. 💜

There’s nothing quite like spending time with like minded people wanting to improve. 💯
