❓Quick question: when was your last real break today?

If you can't remember, you're not alone. But here's why it matters:
Why are micro-breaks important?

Taking just a minute or two to stand, stretch, or look away from your screen, take a deep breath and consciously relax can:
✅ Sharpen your focus and concentration
✅ Boost your energy levels throughout the day
✅ Help prevent serious health conditions linked to prolonged sitting and constant screen time

𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆: Set a reminder to move every 30 to 60 minutes. Stretch, grab water, or step outside for fresh air.

Your future self (and your to-do list) will thank you. 💪

📤 Share it with your team.
💬 Ask them to choose one thing they could change about the way they work.

That's it.
No workshop to organise.
No long presentation.
No need to diagnose anyone's pain.

Just a simple prompt to get people thinking about how they work—not just how much work they get through.
And there's a leadership lesson in this too.

Great team leaders don't need to have all the answers. They create opportunities for their people to notice problems, make informed choices and build better habits.

So if you're looking for an easy way to support your team's health this week:

Start with one conversation.

And no, I’m not about to tell you that you need to squeeze a gym session into an already busy day! 😄
One of the simplest ways to look after yourself is to find more opportunities to move throughout your normal day.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻.
NEAT = Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis — the energy you use through everyday movement that isn't sleeping, eating or planned exercise.
Think about all the little movements you make without really thinking about them:
🚶 Pacing while on a phone call
🪜 Taking the stairs
🧹 Tidying up
🛒 Walking around the shops
🐕 Playing with your dog
🧍 Standing up and moving around between tasks
💃 Even fidgeting counts!
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿?
NEAT can vary enormously between people, even those of a similar size. Your job, habits, free time, genetics and other factors all influence how much everyday movement you get.

More movement throughout the day can support metabolism, blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and heart health, while helping counter some of the downsides of prolonged sitting.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
The great thing is that these movements don't have to feel like exercise. They're small opportunities to break up sitting and build movement into the way you already work and live.

Of course, NEAT isn't a replacement for regular cardio or strength training. Think of it as something that works alongside exercise — and something that's often much easier to sustain every day.

So if you spend a lot of your working day at a computer, perhaps the question isn't:
"𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆?"
Maybe it's also:
"Where can I find a little more movement in the day I'm already having?"

That could be a very useful self-care work skill. 💚

AI is changing how we work. But are we keeping up with what that means for the people doing the work?

Harvard Business Review is adding to an increasingly important conversation about AI, cognitive load and employee wellbeing. Its recent article, When Using AI Leads to “Brain Fry”, explores how certain patterns of AI use can contribute to cognitive fatigue. Other research highlights how AI can intensify work rather than simply reduce it.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
As technology, AI and digital workloads reshape our working environments, we need to look beyond traditional measures of workplace risk and ask bigger questions about the health, wellbeing and sustainability of the work we do.
That’s why I’m bringing contact centre leaders together for the 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗛𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗫 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗜𝗛𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

This is an opportunity for middle and senior managers to step back from the daily demands of operations and explore:
🔹 What are we missing when we assess the risks of computer-based work?
🔹 How do we connect the dots between WHS, employee wellbeing, engagement and operational performance?
🔹 What can we learn from other contact centres facing similar challenges?
🔹 What practical changes could help us better protect our people as work evolves?

This isn't just another discussion about workplace safety. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆.
Your experience matters. Your insights can help build a better understanding of the challenges facing our industry — and identify opportunities to do things differently.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺.
Sometimes it starts with something much simpler:
𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.

In contact centres, where sustained screen time, sitting, and intense periods of concentration are part of every workday, building small movement opportunities into the day can help people look after themselves while they work.

That's why Beyond Ergo has updated its Stretch at Your Desk sheet.
𝗜𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 “𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵” 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵-𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁.

Leaders can use it to:
✔️ Start team meetings with a 60-second movement break
✔️ Encourage active stretching between periods of intense work
✔️ Introduce simple self-care conversations
✔️ Make movement a normal part of the working day
Because healthier work habits aren't built through one big intervention.

They're built through small actions that become part of how we work.
Move More. Feel Better. Work Better.
