During an echocardiogram, our cardiac sonographer noticed an unusual change in the patient’s heart rhythm.

That observation led to further testing and cardiologist review, showing how collaboration helps build the bigger clinical picture.

Swipe through to see what was noticed and what followed.

If backing Freo this Saturday makes us guilty… lock us up 💜⚓

Safe to say Freo fever has well and truly taken over our Mandurah clinic.

Good luck this Saturday, Freo! 💜

A little nostalgia, an important reminder. 📼❤️

A heart health check starts with understanding your risk factors. Your GP can review your blood pressure, cholesterol, family history and lifestyle to assess your risk of heart disease and discuss any next steps.

A cholesterol check is a simple blood test that measures HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

Recommended ages to start Heart Health Checks for people without existing heart disease:

• 45 years for most adults
• 35 years for people living with diabetes
• 30 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Your GP may recommend earlier checks depending on your individual risk factors. Ask which checks are right for you and how often you need them.

It’s an exciting time to be a Freo supporter💜

Whether you’re sitting in the stands, on the couch or watching with friends, your heart can react to every big moment.

That’s because excitement, anticipation and stress can trigger the body’s fight-or-flight response, releasing hormones such as adrenaline that temporarily increase heart rate and keep us alert.

In one study of 229 football fans, average heart rate rose by 8 beats per minute on the day of a major match, with stress levels 41% higher than usual. Fans watching live at the stadium averaged 94 bpm, compared with 79 bpm for those watching on TV.

Then there’s the coaches’ box.

Australian researchers monitored an AFL coach across seven matches and found an average match heart rate of 125 bpm. When the game was close, the final five minutes pushed that average up to 145 bpm.

And on the field, elite AFL players can spend more than half of a match operating at 85–95% of their maximum heart rate.

So while the players are doing the running, fans and coaches can be feeling the intensity too.

Good luck tonight, Freo. 💜

Today is R U OK? Day 💛

A meaningful conversation can make a difference, but knowing how to start is not always easy.

R U OK? encourages four simple steps: ask, listen, encourage action and check in.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Taking the time to listen without judgement, staying connected and encouraging appropriate support can help someone feel heard and supported.

And while today is an important reminder, asking “Are you OK?” is a conversation we can have any day of the year.

For conversation guides and resources, visit the R U OK? website.

At Access Cardiology, we provide bulk-billed echocardiograms across all 10 of our locations for Medicare-eligible patients with a valid referral.

An echocardiogram (or echo) is a safe, non-invasive heart ultrasound that uses sound waves to create moving images of your heart. It helps assess how well your heart is pumping, the structure and function of your heart chambers and valves, and blood flow through the heart.

Your doctor may refer you for an echocardiogram to investigate symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest discomfort or fatigue, or to assess and monitor an existing heart condition.

Already have a referral?
Request an appointment online or send your referral to [email protected] and our team will be in contact to arrange an appointment.

Do you know your blood pressure?

Nearly 4 in 10 Australian adults have high blood pressure, and because it often has no obvious symptoms, many people may not realise their blood pressure is high.

A simple blood pressure check can help you keep track of this important part of your heart health. You can have your blood pressure checked by a doctor, nurse or pharmacist, or monitor it at home using a validated device.

Looking after your heart doesn't have to mean changing everything overnight.

Small, realistic habits are often the ones that last. Whether it's taking a short walk before dinner, drinking more water or adding an extra serve of vegetables to your meal, every positive choice counts.

Remember to be kind to yourself along the way.

Your heart will thank you. ❤️
