Hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes. Most of us know the common signs of menopause. Dry mouth is one that often gets missed.

Between 30 and 50% of women going through menopause report a dry mouth. As oestrogen and progesterone fall, the natural protection they give your gums, teeth and the lining of your mouth drops too. Some women notice it as early as their 30s, during perimenopause.

The good news is that gentle daily habits can make a real difference. Swipe through for signs to look out for and simple things that help.

If your mouth feels different lately, mention it at your next check-up. We'll look after you. Book online via the link in our bio or call 03 8000 4005.

Our surgery. A quiet room, not a clinic corridor. Art on the wall, a door that closes, and no rush. We designed the space so you can settle in before we start.

Do not rinse after brushing. Spit and stop there. Rinsing with water washes the fluoride straight off your teeth before it has a chance to do its job. A small habit change from Dr Ayman that makes a real difference.

"Never laughed so much at the dentist"

We will take that as a compliment, Martina. A bit of laughter goes a long way, especially if the dentist makes you nervous.

Airflow cleaning, not scraping. Guided Biofilm Therapy uses warm water and a fine powder to lift plaque and stain. It is gentler than a traditional scale and clean, and it reaches the spots instruments cannot. Ask about it at your next hygiene visit.
