💙 Some of the Most Important Work We Do Happens When Nobody Is Watching 💙
A week ago, Developing Ur Life submitted a comprehensive response to the proposed NDIS reforms.
The consultation period was just two weeks.
Two weeks to review proposed legislative changes that have the potential to impact children, adults and families living with disability across Australia.
Two weeks to examine policy, research and legislation.
Two weeks to consider the realities faced by people living in rural and regional communities.
Two weeks to ensure the voices of the people we support were represented.
When people think about disability services, they often picture support workers, therapy sessions, community access, skill development and everyday moments of growth.
What they don’t always see are the countless hours spent behind the scenes advocating for a better future.
The reports.
The submissions.
The meetings.
The phone calls.
The research.
The difficult conversations.
The responsibility of speaking up when decisions being made today may shape opportunities, supports and quality of life for years to come.
Because disability doesn’t exist in isolation.
When supports are reduced, delayed or harder to access, the impact is felt far beyond the individual.
It is felt by families already carrying enormous responsibilities.
By children trying to succeed at school.
By adults striving to live independently.
By carers balancing work, finances and caregiving.
By regional communities where services are already stretched thin.
Advocacy is not funded.
It is not billable.
It is not always visible.
But it remains one of the most important responsibilities we have.
At Developing Ur Life, we believe our role extends beyond the services we deliver. We believe we have a responsibility to stand alongside the people we support, to contribute to conversations that shape the future of disability services, and to ensure regional voices are not forgotten.
Because behind every policy, every funding decision and every reform proposal is a person.
A child.
A family.
A future.
And those voices deserve to be heard.
