Support that starts with noticing.

A meal hasn’t been finished. The usual groceries aren’t there. The fridge looks a little empty. Things just seem a bit different.

These small changes can be a sign that someone you love may be finding everyday life a bit harder than they’re letting on.

It doesn’t mean taking over. It might simply mean checking in, having a conversation, or finding out what extra support could make life easier.

Sometimes noticing is the first step.

If you’ve noticed a few small changes, After-Care is here to help you work out what support might be right. DM us or visit our website after-care.com.au.

Possibly—but it depends on the type of support you receive and your financial circumstances.

Under the Support at Home program:

• Clinical care is fully funded by the Australian Government
• You may need to contribute towards independence and everyday living services
• The amount you contribute is based on your financial circumstances
• Full Age Pension recipients are generally assessed automatically
• Part-pensioners and self-funded retirees may need to submit an income and assets form to avoid being charged the maximum contribution

An income and means assessment helps determine how much you may need to contribute and how much support the Australian Government will provide.

Understanding what applies to you can make the process feel a little less overwhelming.

At After-Care, we’re here to help individuals and families understand their care options and feel supported through every step.

Please call our friendly team on 1300 46 46 63 or visit www.after-care.com.au.

Waiting for support can be one of the hardest parts of navigating aged care—particularly when your family is already stretched.

Current government data shows the median journey from a person’s first My Aged Care application to the commencement of ongoing Support at Home services is 347 days.

While every person’s circumstances and priority level are different, there are things families can do while waiting:

👉 Keep My Aged Care updated if health, mobility, safety or carer circumstances change. Check that the person is listed as “seeking services.” Begin researching providers and considering what kind of support will be most helpful.

👉 Starting early means you’ll be better prepared when funding becomes available.

👉 After-Care is here to help families understand their options and feel less alone while navigating the process.

When someone you love begins needing more help, families often quietly fill the gaps.

The shopping. The appointments. The phone calls. The cleaning. The checking in. The constant wondering whether everything is okay.

Having support at home doesn’t mean a family is stepping away.

It means they can stop carrying every responsibility alone.

It can give an older person greater confidence and independence at home—and give their loved ones the reassurance of knowing that someone trusted is there to help.

Sometimes the greatest relief is simply being able to return to being a daughter, son, partner or friend—not only a carer.

That is what the right support can make possible.

When one partner becomes the main carer, everyday life can shift very quickly.

What starts as “helping out a little more” can soon become managing meals, appointments, cleaning, medications and personal support — all while trying to keep your own wellbeing on track.

The good news is that Support at Home may help ease some of that load. While funding is assessed individually, services can still be used strategically to support the household and reduce pressure on the caring partner.

Support might include things like:
• domestic assistance
• meal preparation
• gardening
• transport
• personal care
• clinical support
• respite options

If caring at home is starting to feel harder, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

After-Care is here to help you understand your options and find the right support for your situation.
