Your breathing matters at every stage of life. 💙💜

As Asthma Week 2026 comes to a close, there’s one message we want women to carry forward:

Don’t ignore changes in your breathing.

Asthma can change throughout life, and what worked for you before may need reviewing as your body and circumstances change.

Know your symptoms.
Keep your Asthma Action Plan up to date.
Take prescribed asthma medicines as directed.
And if something doesn’t feel right, speak with your healthcare professional.

Awareness shouldn’t end when Asthma Week does.

💗 Save the information you found useful this week.
💬 Start a conversation about asthma with your family and friends.
📲 Share this post so another woman sees the message too.

Breathe better. Live better.

Could your asthma be less controlled than you think?

When life gets busy, it can become easy to adjust to symptoms and start treating them as “normal”.

According to Asthma Australia, good asthma symptom control generally means:

🌙 No waking at night because of asthma, or symptoms when you wake.
🫁 Asthma symptoms no more than two days per week.
💨 Using your reliever only occasionally no more than two days per week.
🏃 Being able to exercise, work and live without asthma symptoms getting in the way.

If that doesn’t sound like your typical week, your asthma may not be as well controlled as it could be.

Don’t simply push through worsening symptoms. Speak with your healthcare professional about an asthma review and make sure your Asthma Action Plan is up to date.

SAVE this checklist and come back to it. 📌
You can also share it with someone who lives with asthma.

Has your breathing changed during perimenopause or menopause?

It may be worth talking about. 💜

Hot flushes and sleep changes often get the attention but hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause may also affect lung health and asthma symptoms.

Research in this area is still developing, but Asthma Australia highlights midlife as an important stage for women with asthma to pay attention to changes in their breathing.

If asthma suddenly feels different, symptoms are becoming harder to control, or you’re relying on your reliever more often, don’t simply assume it’s something you have to put up with.

💗 Notice the changes.
📋 Review your Asthma Action Plan.
🩺 Talk with your healthcare professional about your symptoms.

Women’s respiratory health deserves to be part of the menopause conversation too.

Pregnant and living with asthma? Your breathing deserves attention too. 💜

Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions affecting pregnancy, and symptoms can change during this time they may improve, worsen or stay the same.

Good asthma control during pregnancy is important for both mum and baby.

If you’re pregnant or planning a pregnancy:

🩺 Talk with your healthcare professional about your asthma.
📋 Review your Asthma Action Plan.
💊 Don’t stop prescribed asthma medicines without medical advice.
💗 Pay attention to changes in your symptoms and seek help when needed.

Asthma Australia advises that most daily preventer medicines are considered low risk during pregnancy and should be continued as prescribed. Your individual treatment should always be discussed with your healthcare professional.

Save this post for later or share it with an expecting mum who may benefit from the reminder.

Puberty can change more than you might expect including asthma. 💗

Although asthma is more common in boys during primary-school years, the pattern changes after puberty: asthma becomes more common in females than males.

From age 15, girls and women are hospitalised for asthma at around twice the rate of boys and men.

The teenage years are also a time when young people begin taking more responsibility for their own asthma while managing school, sport, social pressure and changing routines.

For parents, carers and teenagers, this is an important time to keep the conversation going.

💗 Pay attention to changing symptoms.
📋 Keep the Asthma Action Plan current.
💊 Follow prescribed asthma treatment.
🩺 Speak with a healthcare professional if asthma becomes harder to manage.

Know a parent or teenager who should see this? Share it with them.

Asthma can change as you do. 💜

From puberty to pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes throughout a woman’s life can influence asthma symptoms and asthma control.

That means the asthma you experienced as a teenager may not always feel or behave the same way later in life.

PUBERTY: After puberty, asthma becomes more common in females than males.
PREGNANCY: Symptoms may improve, worsen or stay the same.
PERIMENOPAUSE: Hormonal fluctuations may affect asthma symptoms and control.
MENOPAUSE & LATER LIFE: Changes in hormones and health can continue to influence breathing and asthma.

The important message? Notice when something changes.

If your breathing feels different, symptoms are becoming more frequent, or your usual asthma management isn’t working as well as it used to, speak with your healthcare professional and consider an asthma review.

Save this post as a reminder and share it with the women in your life. 💜
