In foodservice supply, disruptions happen. Delayed freight, sudden cost changes, product shortages. They are part of the industry.

What makes the difference is how clearly a business communicates when things shift.

A timely, honest update to buyers during a difficult period does more than manage expectations. It builds the kind of confidence that keeps partnerships intact when the pressure is on. Silence or vague messaging tends to do the opposite.

The businesses that handle disruption well rarely have fewer problems. They just communicate through them better.

Has your business had to navigate a disruption recently? We would be interested to hear how you handled it, and what you would do differently.

You're not just moving product.
You're managing presence.

In foodservice, being visible matters. But so does staying focused on what actually keeps the business running.

Quality.
Logistics.
Relationships.

The balance? Showing up without overcomplicating it.

Sometimes the content that resonates most is the simplest.
A real moment. A quick snapshot. Something honest.

If figuring out what that looks like for your business feels like the hard part, we're happy to talk it through.

Your origin story is one of your strongest marketing tools — and one a lot of suppliers underuse.

In foodservice, buyers aren't just looking at price and availability. They want products with a story they can stand behind and pass on. Where it comes from. Who makes it. How it's produced.

Research shows 84% of Australians are more likely to buy Australian-made products — and that preference flows through to the venues and distributors you're selling to.

We've written about how to turn provenance into a proper marketing asset. Worth a read.

Loyalty in foodservice isn't built on transactions alone.

It's built over time. Through consistency, reliability and the way businesses support each other when it matters.

For suppliers and manufacturers, loyalty often shows up in the details. The value offered, the ease of doing business, the small moments that make a partnership stronger.

Because in this industry, strong relationships tend to outlast short-term wins.

Most foodservice businesses have a supply chain story worth telling. Not many tell it.

Sourcing decisions, production standards, delivery reliability, sustainability practice — all of it is happening behind the scenes, and most buyers never hear about it unless something goes wrong.

But buyers in this industry are increasingly asking questions about the chain behind the product. Where it comes from. How it's managed. Whether the business they're working with can be open about how it operates.

The businesses that can answer those questions clearly tend to build something more durable than a transactional supplier relationship. Transparency isn't just good ethics in a supply chain context. It's good business.

In foodservice, speed and experience are often seen as a trade-off.

But that's starting to change.

From real-time data to automation and smarter workflows, technology is reshaping how restaurants and cafés operate behind the scenes.

The goal isn't just faster service. It's smoother operations, better decision-making and a more consistent experience for customers.

The most effective systems are often the ones you don't notice at all.

Ghost kitchens are no longer a novelty — they're becoming a mainstream part of the Australian foodservice mix.

For suppliers, that's worth paying attention to. These operators run lean, move fast and prioritise products that save time, portion cleanly and hold up in transit.

The opportunity is real for suppliers who understand the model. We've unpacked what it means for your marketing and positioning in our latest Food for Thought blog.

Sourcing and supply chain decisions do more than keep operations moving.

They shape how a brand is perceived.

In the foodservice industry, choices around waste, partnerships and seasonality are increasingly visible. Not just internally, but to customers, buyers and stakeholders.

Over time, these decisions influence more than efficiency. They build trust, signal values and contribute to long-term resilience.

Interesting how what happens behind the scenes often defines what's seen on the surface.

In a lot of foodservice businesses, sales and marketing are working hard but not quite in the same direction.

Marketing produces content based on what it thinks buyers need. Sales talks to buyers every day and knows what they actually ask about. When those two things aren't connected, the marketing doesn't get used, and the sales conversations don't get the support they need.

Mid-year is a good time to close that gap. Not a big restructure, just a genuine conversation between the two functions about what's working, what buyers are actually asking, and what one shared priority looks like for the second half of the year.

It's one of those things that's easy to keep deferring and worth doing before Q3 picks up pace.

Mid-year is a good moment to check whether the data your business runs on is still accurate.

In the foodservice supply chain, outdated records create real operational problems. Invoices going to old contacts. Orders based on stale supplier information. Sales time spent on leads that have gone cold.

None of it is dramatic until it costs you something. A missed order, a relationship that quietly slips, a decision made on numbers that weren't quite right.

The second half of the year tends to pick up pace quickly in this industry. Getting the data in order now is a fairly low-effort way to make sure the business is running on accurate information when it matters most.

Worth an hour of someone's time this week.
