A big shout out to Eva, who has just completed two days of work experience with us from Tallangatta Secondary College.

It has been an absolute delight having Eva in the clinic. She has been engaged, curious, helpful, friendly and pleasant from the moment she walked through the door. She asked thoughtful questions, showed genuine interest in learning, and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.

Outside of school, Eva has a wide range of interests. She loves dancing, enjoys helping out on the family farm, and already has experience in the workforce through her job at the rural farm supplies store in Baranduda. It's clear that she brings a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved in whatever she does.

Eva is also the daughter of our wonderful Pilates instructor, Sarah, so we've enjoyed getting to know her a little better over the past couple of days.

To top it all off, Eva arrived on her final day with gifts for the team to say thank you. She thoughtfully brought in dehydrated bananas, including a sugar-free option specially for Joe and a full-sugar version for the rest of the staff! It was such a kind and considerate gesture and speaks volumes about the sort of person she is.

Whether her future lies in physiotherapy, healthcare, agriculture, business or something completely different, we're confident she's going to make an outstanding employee and colleague one day.

Thank you for spending time with us, Eva. We wish you all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing where your journey takes you.

We're trying to squeeze the very last drops out of Joe's 50th birthday celebrations! 🎈🎉

Armed with some helium-filled balloons on what has otherwise been a bleak and dreary Friday in Wodonga, Josh decided it was the perfect opportunity to talk Joe through a few exercises on the reformer.

The only challenge? Trying not to burst out laughing the whole way through. 😂

We hope this little bit of silliness brightens your day as much as it did ours.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

It was so lovely to finally meet Nat and Raj in person during their quick visit to Albury-Wodonga. 😊

We’ve spoken many times online over the years, so it was great to finally put faces to the names and enjoy a more relaxed catch-up here at the clinic.

Nat, who is an Occupational Therapist by background, has now branched out and established her own company focused on supporting occupational therapists and the organisations that employ them. In particular, she is helping businesses navigate supervision requirements and registration pathways for internationally trained OTs entering the Australian workforce — incredibly important work given the growing need for allied health professionals across regional Australia.

She is also passionate about assisting overseas-trained OTs who are hoping to move to Australia and connect with suitable employers and opportunities here.

Raj, pictured with Nat, works as a migration agent and assists with the legal side of the process — helping make what can often feel like a very overwhelming journey far more streamlined and manageable for both employers and clinicians.

As many people know, we’ve sponsored many physiotherapists ourselves in the past, so we understand firsthand both the challenges and the enormous value that international clinicians bring to our communities.

Nat and Raj — thanks so much for calling in and for the wonderful work you are both doing behind the scenes to support healthcare professionals and regional communities alike. Wishing you both all the very best for the future, and hopefully next time you visit we can spend even more time together (and maybe rope you into some physiotherapy fun and games as well 😂).

Well… I survived turning 50!!

Just wanted to say a very heartfelt thank you to everyone for all the kind messages, gifts, laughs, and birthday wishes over the weekend. It genuinely meant a lot.

As many of you now know, I share my birthday with my daughter Dympna, who turned 15, so together we celebrated our combined “65th retirement birthday”!!

I had an absolutely brilliant weekend. One of my lifelong dreams was to drive a Jaguar Sovereign XJ6. Poor Anna had quietly spent weeks trying to track one down for me, only for the perfect one to suddenly appear about five minutes away on Huon Creek Road. I got to take it out for a drive and honestly loved every second of it.

The other surprise was a falconry experience later in the year. Ever since I was a little boy watching the film, Kes, I always wanted to train a kestrel. Australia doesn't allow me to own one, but I’m very excited to finally experience something close to that dream.

Friday’s sushi lunch at the clinic was also an absolute highlight. I don’t think any of us were emotionally prepared for Sijie to reveal his secret thrash metal alter ego on electric guitar, alongside Josh on vocals. Between them they somehow produced a mash-up involving Close To You (The Carpenters), Build Me Up Buttercup (The Foundations), and the regular Happy Birthday.
A special thank you to Anna for everything she does behind the scenes, not just for me personally but for helping build Optimum into what it is today.

And finally, thank you to all our clinicians, admin staff, Pilates instructors, patients, and the wider community who have supported us over so many years. It’s been a real privilege to do this work and be part of people’s lives.

Tonight I’ll finish the celebrations quietly with a small glass of Irish whiskey and a very grateful heart.

Thanks again everybody ❤️

Big welcome to Shorea! 🌏❤️

After a very long wait and a whole lot of patience navigating the partner visa process, Shorea — Josh’s partner — has officially arrived in Albury-Wodonga and we honestly couldn’t be happier for them both.

Being separated from the people you love, and from your home country, is never easy. Many of us know personally just how emotional and stressful that journey can be, which makes this moment even more special.

Shorea is a qualified dietitian and will be looking at opportunities around the region in the coming months. More importantly though, she’s already shown herself to be a beautiful, kind and incredibly patient person, and we know she’s going to be a wonderful addition to our community.

We’re so excited to see what this next chapter looks like for Josh and Shorea here in our region.

Please give Shorea a huge virtual welcome and help us make her feel at home here in Wodonga! 🇦🇺✨

Great to have you here, Shorea — we hope you absolutely love life on the border!! 🙌

Apologies about the quality of the photo… the Wodonga sun was on its best behaviour today 😂☀️

Apparently my reflex hammer has officially retired mid-consultation today… 😅

I was assessing a gentleman with quite an unusual nerve condition affecting his legs and needed to check whether the nerve fibres were firing correctly using reflex testing (mainly around the knee and ankle).

Halfway through the test… the reflex hammer snapped clean in two. 🪦🔨

For the record it definitely wasn't caused by the strength of this bloke’s quads!!!
But it does mean our poor reflex hammer has finally reached retirement age

Which, unfortunately, feels a little too relatable given I turn 50 this Sunday… 👴🏻

Also yes… before anyone says it I forgot to shave and my new nickname is greybeard!!

So I’m now accepting:
➡️ sympathy
➡️ birthday wishes
➡️ virtual love
➡️ donations towards new reflex hammers

Please be kind… I’m clearly falling apart at the same rate as the clinic equipment 😂
