BUT. What will matter more — a fancy gadget that may or may not make a difference or the way you felt during the most transformative experience of your life?

A women never forgets how she was treated, how she felt, and who was there during labour.

I always tell mamas during consult calls that you can interview as many doulas as you’d like, just go with the one who makes you feel most at ease. 🫶

You’ll ALWAYS remember how you felt during birth. Make sure that feeling is “supported”. You deserve nothing less.

Even if your plan is “get the epidural”, you still need skills and a plan in place for:
- if labour progresses quickly and your drive to the hospital is intense
- If the anesthesiologist is called into surgery and can’t come for several hours
- If it fails (happens more than you’d expect)

It’s important for EVERYONE to have a plan and skills for labour. 💪🏼

Example: I recently had a mama planning a scheduled C-section go into labour before the scheduled date and had an unexpected VBAC.

The need is great (as you may have noticed, I’ve been struggling to keep up lately)… so we found someone great! This has been in the works for a longgggg time and I’m SO excited to officially welcome Jamie Sue of Jamie Sue | Doula & Lactation Support to the Let Them Latch Team!

1 year ago (plus a few days… forgive me, I was on vacation!) I launched my KATHRYN | Birth Doula & Breastfeeding Coach website, going all in on birth, postpartum & breastfeeding. (Don’t get me wrong, I supported my first birth in 2015… but this is when I said I’m doing this full time and never looking back).

What a whirlwind. I hoped and dreamed for things to take off quickly, but this year was more than I could’ve even prayed for. 🙏
(I’m surprised… but I’m sure God isn’t!)

What an honour to be trusted by each and every client (and trusted to support clients for Sarah I Mother-Centered Care Laura | Birth Doula and Solo Respira Yoga and Doula Services 🫶).

Recently we celebrated my oldest’s 6th birthday, which means that I’ve been breastfeeding for over 6 years now. At one point I was tandem feeding my toddler & baby AND pumping for a friend’s baby. At another point my supply was so low I was lucky if I got a few drops.

I share this because in addition to my education, wherever you are on your breastfeeding journey, I’ve very likely been in your shoes at one point. I remember how it feels. I am living proof that the right support goes a long way.
