I believe that all people have an incredible capacity for change. In my career, I've had the honour to observe individuals, with seemingly insurmountable challenges, create meaningful and lasting change in their lives.

Addiction is not a moral failing. Compassion, support, and access to help can make a meaningful difference. Recovery is possible, and no one should have to face it alone.

A return to routine can bring relief...and anxiety.

As summer begins to wind down, many people feel pressure to “get back on track.”

School schedules return. Work becomes busier. Calendars fill up. Families begin preparing for another transition.

Routine can feel grounding, but change, even expected change, can also bring anxiety.

Try easing into the season by focusing on what is manageable:

Prepare for one week, not the entire fall.
Leave some unscheduled space where possible.
Talk openly about worries rather than dismissing them.
Keep expectations realistic during the transition.
Return to sleep and meal routines gradually.

You do not need to have everything organized immediately. A gentle transition is still a successful one.

Healing is rarely a straight line.

Some days you may feel stronger, clearer and more hopeful. On other days, an old feeling, memory or fear may return unexpectedly.

That does not mean you are back at the beginning.

Give yourself some credit when you notice a trigger sooner, or set a boundary you used to avoid, or even just speaking to yourself with less criticism.

Progress can be quiet. It can happen internally long before anyone else can see it.

A difficult day does not erase the work you have done.

Self-care is often presented as another thing we need to accomplish.

A perfect morning routine. A wellness retreat. A long list of habits we are somehow supposed to maintain.

But self-care can be much smaller and gentler than that.

It might look like:

Taking a few slow breaths before answering a difficult message.
Eating something when you have been too busy to notice your hunger.
Going to bed a little earlier.
Stepping outside for five minutes.
Saying no without writing a long explanation.
Letting yourself rest without first earning it.

Self-care is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about noticing what you need and responding with kindness.
