Is it worth it to engage in conflict with friends? Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on how important they are to you, and if they are emotionally capable of effective conflict. Some aren’t, which is a result of their own trauma. If that’s the case, sometimes you can resolve your feelings in therapy and move forward. Sometimes though, it means you’ve out grown the relationship, and then it’s useful to get support to grieve the loss. Eventually moving forward in finding relationships for yourself that do provide opportunities for closeness and intimacy. ❤️

Family Constellations is a profound, energetic way to shift ancestral family patterns and to resolve unfinished business in our ancestry that impact us now.
In Family Constellations, we see that the family has a soul and an energy, and that everyone belongs. Sometimes, due to tragedy, or trauma, war or other conflicts, ancestors have been ’excluded’ in some way. When an ancestor is excluded, family members from subsequent generations will unconsciously attempt to include these excluded members back into the family by following their fate, taking on their energy or emotional patterns in some way. This is the explanation for current suffering, according to Family Constellations. We can resolve these patterns in a constellation workshop, and free you up now to live a joyful and entanglement free life.

Often I see themes emerge in therapy. I want to share what I’ve learned and what I teach others, so everyone can benefit from therapy. So let’s talk about friendship….
In our primary attachment relationship (our romantic partners), we expect conflict and challenge. In friendship, sometimes we don’t. And we certainly don’t learn how to handle conflict that comes up. When our friend does something hurtful, or something we feel angry or annoyed about, these small resentments tend to build. I would argue they are most likely the cause of most relationship fractures. We can learn, with safe people, to share our feelings, and share these little resentments in order to let them go. Check out my next post on how to effectively share resentments and gain more emotional closeness in your relationships. Hint - it requires agreement from your friend that they can hear the resentment in that moment, then it their job to respond ONLY with “I hear you”. I’m convinced these three little words can change the world. ❤️

Emotionally immature parents are not able to meet our complex needs for true emotional connection as children. People who grew up in this kind of family often experience deep loneliness. This is because as humans, we have a deep need to feel emotional connection to others. And when our parents cannot provide that, mainly because of their own wounding, the scars are deep. We grow up feeling alone in a crowded room, ashamed of existing or having emotional needs, and often get stuck trying very hard to be pleasing to others. It’s like being in a desert with no water.
