A little reminder that practitioners are human, too...
As someone who spends so much of my time caring for others (and genuinely LOVES doing so), I sometimes forget about the person who needs a little care, too. Myself.
Our bodies are our vessels. They carry us through absolutely everything life throws our way. And when we forget to nurture them, sometimes they have a way of reminding us.
And well... here I am. 😂
Burnt out, fighting off whatever lovely cold or flu decided to make itself at home, and feeling rather woozy and uncomfortable. Thankfully, I'm on the mend!
Today, I'm wrapping up my TAC (Trauma, ANS & Concussion) course, and something about today's material really hit home.
Sometimes, we disconnect from ourselves without even realizing it.
Not intentionally. Not because we don't care. But because life happens. Trauma happens. Loss happens. And sometimes we're so busy navigating everything around us that we forget to check in with what's happening within us.
This has been a tricky year.
Experiencing a loss that wasn't supposed to happen. Navigating the changes that follow. Watching how grief and unexpected circumstances shift things within ourselves, our loved ones, our relationships, and the world around us.
It's uncomfortable, isn't it?
And sometimes, the hardest part is accepting that we can't control everything.
I'm incredibly thankful for my RAPID mentors and the reminders throughout this course about reconnecting with ourselves, recognizing what IS within our control, and learning to face discomfort rather than constantly trying to escape it.
Because sometimes, that's where growth begins.
So yes, I'm currently a walking contagion. 😂
But being home, wallowing in my misery, has also given me something I haven't allowed myself much of lately.
Time to sit with myself.
To reflect. To recognize how much I've been carrying. And to acknowledge the fear that comes with slowing down, especially as a self-employed practitioner.
Because taking time off doesn't just mean resting. Sometimes it means cancelled appointments, lost income, guilt, and worrying about the people who were counting on you.
But here's the thing...
I can't continue showing up for others if I forget to show up for myself.
And perhaps that's the biggest reminder I've taken from this week.
Our bodies aren't just something we work with, push through discomfort, or expect to keep going. They're something we live within. Something worth reconnecting with, listening to, and caring for.
Life happens. It challenges us, changes us, and sometimes knocks us right off our feet. But those experiences don't have to define us. How we choose to move forward matters.
Here's to reconnecting with ourselves, even when life gets a little messy...
And to my fellow caregivers, practitioners, and anyone who's been carrying a little too much lately... remember, you're allowed to need care, too.
Sincerely,
Jasmine
