One of the biggest fundraising days of the year for local healthcare is coming up, as CJ1150, Sun102, and Country 106.1 prepare to host the annual Radiothon for Life on Wednesday, June 10, in support of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

Funds raised during the radiothon go directly toward improving care at St. Joseph’s Hospital, with a strong focus this year on supporting the hospital’s chemotherapy unit, helping ensure more patients can receive treatment close to home.

Today, we welcomed the arrival of the MRI at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a milestone that represents the power of community, partnership, and generosity.

In these photos are just some of the people who helped make this possible, including Elaine Walkom, whose transformational gift helped launch the MRI for Estevan campaign and inspired an entire region to rally behind this project.

We also recognize the many partners who stood together to bring MRI services closer to home, including the Government of Saskatchewan, St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Auxiliary, Emmanuel Health, healthcare staff, municipalities, businesses, organizations, donors, volunteers, and community members from across Southeast Saskatchewan.

What once felt impossible is now becoming reality.

Today marks another historic milestone for healthcare in Southeast Saskatchewan.

The MRI has officially arrived at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

What once began as a dream is now becoming a reality thanks to the incredible generosity, determination, and support of Elaine Walkom, donors, volunteers, businesses, municipalities, healthcare staff, and community members across our region.

This moment belongs to everyone who believed we could bring MRI services closer to home.

While there is still work ahead before the MRI becomes operational, seeing it arrive is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

At St. Joseph’s Hospital, chemotherapy care means emotional support, listening, comforting, helping solve problems, and maintaining hope and strength through every step of the journey.

This year, Radiothon for Life is supporting chemotherapy services in Estevan - helping ensure patients can continue receiving compassionate care close to home.

For many patients, avoiding hours of travel to Regina means less stress, more comfort, and the ability to be surrounded by familiar faces during difficult days. It means treatment in a smaller, more personal environment where patients are known, supported, and never treated like just another number.

The team in the chemo department shares difficult moments, but also laughter, encouragement, and celebrations including the unforgettable bell-ringing ceremonies that mark the completion of treatment.

On Wednesday, June 10th, join us for Radiothon for Life on Rock 106, Sun 102 and CJ1150 as we come together to support local cancer care.
