Our Howlett Optical family is mourning the loss of the backbone of our clinic, and our dear friend, Susan.

For many years, Susan was the familiar face of Howlett Optical and our beloved lead optician and office manager. She had a remarkable talent for finding the perfect pair of glasses for someone, often on the first try! Her knowledge, kindness, and warm personality made our patients feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walked through our doors. Susan brought laughter and joy to our clinic each day, and she had a way of making even the craziest days more enjoyable.

We will forever be grateful for the years we had with Susan, the memories we shared, and the lasting mark she has left on our clinic, our patients, and our hearts. She will be dearly missed.

With all the Canada Day festivities this week, fireworks & sparklers are sure to make an appearance.

Did you know fireworks & sparklers can potentially cause serious harm to your eyes? 🎆

Some tips to stay safe during celebrations:

💥 If you are setting off fireworks, be sure to wear eye protection. If you are a bystander, view fireworks from at least 500 feet away.
💥 Respect the safety barriers when going to see fireworks displays.
💥 Sparklers can cause eye damage if held close to eyes, so be sure to handle away from your face. It is not recommended to give sparklers to young children.

National Eyewear Day, June 6th – Is Your Child Seeing Clearly?

Many children don’t realize when they are having trouble seeing.

They often assume that what they see is normal—even when it isn’t.

Undetected vision problems can affect learning, attention, and confidence in the classroom.

Watch for these signs:
• Frequent headaches or eye strain
• Difficulty concentrating
• Sitting too close to screens or books
• Squinting or unusual viewing habits
• Covering one eye or tilting the head
• Eye Rubbing

An eye exam is the only way to be sure of your child’s vision.

Children between 2 and 17 should have an eye exam every year.
