🚨 Is the neck training women are doing actually working?

A peer-reviewed study on elite female athletes — soccer and Australian football players — put a 12-week isometric neck strengthening program to the test.

The result? No significant improvement in neck strength.

Zero.

Here's the problem: isometric training means pushing against a fixed resistance — no movement. But real-world neck injuries don't happen when your head is standing still. Whiplash, concussions, and cervical trauma happen in motion — at velocity.

Research consistently shows that women already have 43–50% less neck strength than men depending on direction. That gap has real consequences:

The PEAK Conference in Las Vegas was a tremendous success for Kinmetrix.

We had the opportunity to showcase the Kinmetrix Arc to leaders across sport, performance, health, and innovation — and the response was incredible.

One of the biggest highlights: the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas took the Arc right off the showroom floor.

We are incredibly excited to see the Arc being used to help assess and strengthen the necks of UFC fighters, bringing objective data, targeted training, and performance-focused neck strengthening into one of the world’s most elite combat-sport environments.

Research continues to show that women may face different risks and recovery patterns when it comes to head, neck, and concussion-related injuries. Yet neck strength is often not measured objectively.
