When teams come together with a shared purpose, the impact can be life-changing.

This is the story of a beautiful collaboration that helped give a pediatric cancer patient and her family something incredibly precious: more time.

Megan has been cared for by many areas of Hamilton Health Sciences throughout her life, from her NICU care at birth, to cancer care at the age of 14, where she received the first brachytherapy treatment ever performed on a child in Canada at our Juravinski Cancer Centre. Her parents, Jeff and Amber, say we have been a constant in Megan’s life.

Last week, doctors and staff at Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and Foundation hosted Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day, an in-person event at our Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre for those considering reconstruction options after a mastectomy.

“My mission is to tackle one of the biggest challenges in robotics: creating a robotic hand that can move and adapt like a human hand," says Ahmed Ibrahim, a recipient of our 2026 DRIVE SPARK Funding Grant, which will support his development of a high-tech prosthetic hand.

Ibrahim's award-winning start-up company, Better Bionics, aims to transform prosthetics through artificial intelligence and 3D printing. He is developing this high-tech hand with feedback and support from experts at Hamilton Health Sciences' prosthetics & orthotics rehabilitative care department, The Forge McMaster, DeGroote Heersink Hub at McMaster University and Innovation Factory.
