If you're pregnant, induction might be something you've heard about but haven't given much thought to yet.

There are several reasons your care provider might recommend inducing labour, including going past your due date, your waters breaking before labour starts, or high blood pressure during pregnancy.

But what happens when an induction is recommended? What does the process involve? What questions should you ask? And what options might be available to you?

💛 Understanding induction before you're faced with a decision can help you feel more prepared and confident.

Learning about the potential benefits and risks, what to expect, and the options available for your individual circumstances can help you have an informed conversation with your care provider.

At Birth to Baby Bootcamp, we explore induction alongside other important topics to help you prepare for labour, birth, and your baby's arrival.

When you're preparing for your baby, you might picture yourself labouring in a hospital bed. But did you know that staying upright and changing positions throughout labour may have benefits?

Research suggests that upright positions may help to:

✨ Shorten labour
✨ Reduce the likelihood of caesarean birth
✨ Reduce the need for an epidural

There are lots of ways to stay upright and move during labour. You could stand, walk, kneel, lean forward over a birth ball, or sit upright.

💛 You don't have to find one perfect position. Moving, trying different positions, and discovering what feels best for you can all be part of your labour toolkit.

Of course, every labour is different, and the positions available to you may depend on your circumstances and your baby's wellbeing. The goal is to understand your options so you can make informed choices.

At Birth to Baby Bootcamp, we practice birth positions and explore practical strategies to advocate for the position you want to be in.

Since becoming a parent have you ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why you’re there? 🙋‍♀️

We call the forgetfullness ‘mom brain’ and the connotation is usually negative… but what if it’s not a flaw?

During pregnancy, your brain changes so that it can adapt to the future demands of parenthood.

And dads? Their brains can adapt through hands-on caregiving, too!

This is not to say that lack of sleep, stress, divided attention, mental health, and the mental load of caring for your newborn don't have an impact. These things can absolutely affect your memory.

But the brain changes specific to parenthood aren’t cognitive decline, they exist to help you focus on your baby’s needs. Maybe you can't remember the name of the last movie you saw because your brain has decided it's just not that important right now. Your brain is now focused on the baby in front of you and tuning into all it's needs.

📚 Inspired by these reads on Substack:
• Darby Saxbe — How Motherhood Reshapes the Brain
• My Fertile Brain — Is “Baby Brain” Real?
• Techno Sapiens — How Fathers Are “Wired” for Parenting

You might be wondering whether you'll want an epidural in labour, whether you'll be able to manage labour without one, or how you'll know what's right for you.

The good news? You don't need to have all the answers before you go into labour.

What is helpful is understanding your options before you're in the middle of it all.

That means learning about the potential benefits and risks of an epidural, exploring other pain management strategies, and thinking about your own preferences and priorities.

At Birth to Baby Bootcamp, we take the time to explore your pain management options so you can ask questions, understand your choices, and feel better prepared to make decisions that are right for you.
