There are a lot of first aid myths that have been passed down over the years, but knowing the facts can make a real difference in an emergency.

‼️Here are 10 important first aid facts everyone should know‼️

1. Many people having a heart attack are more comfortable sitting upright.

2. Use cold, not heat, for many recent muscle, bone, or joint injuries.

3. People who help in good faith are protected by Good Samaritan laws.

4. Start CPR if someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally.

5. AEDs are designed to be used by anyone, you don’t have to be a healthcare professional.

6. For many burns, clean, cool running water is the safest first step.

7. Lean forward, not backward, during a nosebleed.

8. Don’t give food or drinks to someone who is choking.

9. Never put anything in someone’s mouth during a seizure.

10. If someone is hyperventilating, focus on keeping them calm and supported.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER can happen fast…are you ready?? When a storm suddenly shifts, would you be prepared to evacuate within minutes? If you couldn’t evacuate, what’s your plan?

Saskatchewan has seen an increase in tornado warnings, damaging winds, hail, flash flooding, and extended power outages. Take 10 minutes today to prepare.

✅ Charge your phones and power banks.
✅ Keep flashlights with fresh batteries.
✅ Have 72 hours of water, food, medications, and pet supplies.
✅ Know where your safest shelter is.
✅ Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.
✅ Keep a battery-powered radio or weather alerts turned on.
✅ If the power goes out, keep your fridge and freezer closed as much as possible.
✅ Create an emergency kit, that includes your household emergency plan.

Canadian Red Cross has valuable resources to assist you in creating an emergency preparedness kit and plan.

Saskatchewan Storm Watch is an incredible resource for live weather updates, changes, and interpretations of evolving storms. You can follow them on social media and be sure to download their free Instant Weather app.
