Beep Beep went Shay and Kayla!

The roads were clear as they travelled over to Clearwater yesterday for some of prevention in rural communities. Some studies have found that "rural patients were 28% more likely to suffer severe (brain) injury."

We love partnering with the North Thompson RCMP Victim Services Unit for their Clearwater & Vavenby Elementary school bike rodeos every year. We do helmet checks and replace helmets in circumstances where cost may get in the way of a kid owning an appropriate bike helmet.

Registration is now open for the 23rd Annual Gur Singh Memorial Golf Tournament.

Join us on September 11 at Bighorn Golf & Country Club for a day of golf, connection, and community impact. This tournament has become one of Kamloops’ most anticipated charity golf events, raising funds that help support local brain injury survivors and their families through the programs and services offered by KBIA.

Whether you’re registering a team, becoming a sponsor, or both, now is the time to get involved.

Golf spots fill quickly each year, so don’t wait.

Email [email protected] to register!

Today was our practicum student Emily’s last day! She has been practicing Expressive Art Therapy with survivors since October, and has loved getting to know the staff, volunteers, and of course the survivors. ‘Thank you to KBIA for having me, and to the survivors who were a part of my journey to become a practitioner.’

Congratulations Emily and we hope you come and visit soon!

Today we are veryyyyyy excited to be hosting a challenge station for Speak Up Self-Advocacy Awareness (SUSA)'s An Amazing Race for Inclusion this year.

We cannot wait to meet the racers that will be visiting our office to participate in a sensory overwhelm challenge. Experiencing sensory overload is a common symptom for many brain injury survivors. We always appreciate partnering with other organizations that are working to make the world a more respectful place for people with disabilities.

Check it out and get involved yourself at Race for Inclusion: https://www.tourismkamloops.com/events/an-amazing-race-to-inclusion

Jail time for KBIA as today is the Kamloops Regional Correctional Center Community Resource Fair.

We are so grateful to our partners at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Center for inviting us again this year to their resource fair. We had a great time last year meeting the inmates and staff.

As it's suspected that up to 80% of people incarcerated have a brain injury Shay our educational coordinator has been working closely with the men within the facility over the past few months. She enjoys seeing so many community organizations at the fair ensuring that the inmates are aware of what is available to them upon release.
