Alison Smith started working at The Shoe Tree at a young age alongside her father, who founded the business. Since then, she has become a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, opened Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, and served as President of the Pedorthic Association of Canada.
Alison has helped shape the care we provide today: taking the time to understand each client’s needs, creating custom foot orthotics, and helping them choose properly fitted footwear.
Today, she works alongside Jean-Marc Gallant and Anand Sravanapudi to help people walk and stand more comfortably.

Can orthotics help with pressure from painful calluses? 👣
Yes. Custom foot orthotics can help reduce pressure on painful calluses under your feet, making walking and standing more comfortable.
Calluses develop in response to repeated pressure or friction. Orthotics can redistribute that pressure, add cushioning, and provide targeted relief around the painful area.
Orthotics don’t remove the callus itself. Foot care can help manage the thickened skin, while orthotics and properly fitted footwear address the pressure contributing to it.
At Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, our Canadian Certified Pedorthists assess your feet, walking pattern, and footwear to recommend the right approach for you.

Shoes rubbing against your bunions? 👟
A shoe that presses against your big toe joint can make everyday walking uncomfortable. The right width, shape, and material can help reduce that pressure.
Look for:
• A roomy toe box with enough width and depth
• Soft uppers without seams pressing against the bunion
• A low heel and comfortable fit
At Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, we carry a large selection of supportive footwear, including wide-fitting options. We can help you find shoes that accommodate your feet and suit your daily activities.
Bring your orthotics if you wear them, so we can make sure everything fits comfortably together.
Stop by our store for help finding the right footwear, or call to book a foot assessment with one of our Canadian Certified Pedorthists if pain is affecting your walking.

No, you can book directly with us.
However, if you have insurance coverage for custom foot orthotics, most plans require a prescription for reimbursement. If you’re unsure, check with your insurer to see whether one is needed.
At Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, our Canadian Certified Pedorthists assess your feet, walking pattern, and footwear to determine whether custom orthotics, footwear changes, or another approach may help.

Do your old shoes feel comfortable, but your feet still hurt?

That happens more often than people realize. A shoe can still feel soft and familiar even after it has lost some of the cushioning, stability, and structure it had when it was new.

Over time, worn shoes may contribute to:
• Heel or arch pain
• Pain under the ball of the foot
• Tired or sore feet
• Knee, hip, or lower back discomfort

If you wear custom orthotics, the condition of your shoes matters too. The shoe gives the orthotic the foundation it needs to work properly.
At Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, we can check your current footwear and help determine whether better supportive shoes, custom orthotics, or both may help.

As the weather changes, many people switch back into closed shoes, work shoes, and older footwear they may not have worn much over the summer.

That change can sometimes bring foot pain back, especially if the shoes are worn out, too tight, or not giving your feet enough support.

You may start noticing:
• Heel or arch pain
• Pain under the ball of the foot
• Tired or sore feet after walking or standing
• Discomfort that gets worse as the day goes on

At Shoe Tree Foot Clinic, we look at your feet, walking pattern, and footwear to help figure out what may be contributing to the problem.

Sometimes better footwear is enough. Other times, custom orthotics may help reduce strain and improve comfort.

If your foot pain is starting to return this fall, it may be a good time to get it checked.

New for fall: New Balance Hierro Gore-Tex 👟
A great choice for wet weather. It gives you the comfort of a cushioned sneaker with GORE-TEX® waterproof protection, so you can stay comfortable when the weather turns rainy.
A few things we like about it:
• Lightweight cushioning
• GORE-TEX® waterproof protection
• A large rocker-style sole that helps the foot move forward more smoothly
• Good traction for wet conditions
The rocker design can also make it a good option for people dealing with:
• Plantar fasciitis / heel pain
• Metatarsalgia / pain under the ball of the foot
• Foot discomfort during longer walks
A nice option if you want something lighter than a fall boot, cushioning, traction, and waterproof protection.

Ever wonder what happens after we take a cast of your feet?
Your custom orthotics don’t arrive in a box from somewhere else. We actually make them right here at Shoe Tree Foot Clinic in Moncton.
After your foot assessment, your pedorthist designs your orthotics based on your foot structure, how you walk, your symptoms, and where you need more support or pressure relief.
From there, we manufacture and finish them in our own orthotic lab.
One of the big advantages of making them in-house is that if something needs to be adjusted after you start wearing them, we can make those changes ourselves.
It also helps us offer a quick turnaround while still making each pair specifically for the person wearing them.

Why do we ask you to bring your shoes to a foot assessment?
Your footwear can tell us a lot about what may be contributing to your foot pain.
During an assessment, we may look at:
• How your shoes fit
• Where the soles are wearing down
• How stable the shoe is
• Whether there is enough room for your feet and, when needed, custom orthotics
• Whether the shoe itself could be contributing to your symptoms
Sometimes your footwear is part of the problem. Shoes that are too narrow, too flexible, worn out, or simply not suited to your needs can make symptoms worse.
That is why we look at the whole picture: your feet, how you walk, your symptoms, and the footwear you actually use every day.
If you are coming in for a foot assessment, bring the shoes you wear most often, especially the ones you use for work, walking, or exercise.

Brooks Ghost Max: a great option for forefoot pain

We often recommend the Brooks Ghost Max for people dealing with metatarsalgia or pain under the ball of the foot.

Its rocker-style sole helps the foot move forward more smoothly, which can reduce pressure under the forefoot. The thick cushioning also helps absorb shock, making it a good option for longer walks or long days on your feet.

It is also available in wide widths, which can make a big difference for people with wider or harder-to-fit feet.

This shoe can be a great option for:
• Metatarsalgia
• Pain under the ball of the foot
• Wider or harder-to-fit feet
• People who spend long hours of walking or standing

When needed, it also works very well with custom foot orthotics for additional support and pressure relief.
