To all my fellow art therapist in private practice, I see you!

I see you and all the years you’ve dedicated to your education and training. I see you and all of the hours that go into supporting your clients the way you do. 🧡

Every year, when September rolls around it feels like a fresh start. Partly because of years of education and partly because the change in seasons naturally brings a change in schedule.

For most therapists, Summer is our quieter season. While clients are taking time off, I’ve learned to embrace the change as a time to recenter and rest. Doing so allows me to reset my nervous system and prepare for some new offerings.

This Fall we have multiple ways to connect!
🌞 1:1 art therapy (Nanaimo and online)
🌞 1:1 supervision (online)
🌞 intro to art therapy (Nanaimo)
🌞 group supervision (online)
🌞 PIVOT (online)
🌞 two art classes

What are some projects you are ready to give your full attention to this Fall?

Ready to make some waves? Ready to reclaim space for your wellness and reconnect with yourself?
PIVOT is a three-part online therapeutic arts group designed to help you pause, reflect, and create space for what’s next. Through guided art prompts and creative writing, you’ll be invited to explore where you are, let go of what no longer serves you, gain new perspective, and reconnect with what matters.

Create in a journal or on loose paper using whatever materials you have on hand—magazines, markers, pencils, paint, ink, or anything else that calls to you. No art experience is needed.

Together, we’ll make space for curiosity, creativity, and the wisdom of the group.

Let go. Make room. Reconnect. Pivot.

Join for one session or come to all three. Each workshop stands alone, while attending the full series offers an opportunity to deepen the exploration.

In this workshop, I will invite you to discover art therapy as a transformative and meaningful approach to well-being. Through guided creative prompts using simple art materials and reflective writing, you’ll be introduced to some of the core principles of art therapy; like using visual metaphor, tuning into the body, and expressing what words alone can’t say. This is a space to get curious, not perfect. No art experience is needed; just a willingness to explore. We’ll use creativity as a way to slow down, check in, and connect with ourselves. Along the way, I will share more about how art therapy works, who it can support, and why it might be a helpful resource in your own life.

If you are an art therapist, you know how powerful art can be. When integrated into our professional lives, it allows us to gain deeper insight into our clients and enrich our therapeutic approach. In this group, you will engage in various art directives to support self-regulation and have dedicated time to ask questions about your art therapy sessions with clients.

Space is limited, participants must be able to attend all five sessions. If you are interested, please book an intro call to see if this is the right fit for you!

In therapy, we often explore reframing. A technique used to keep negative thoughts in check by shifting our perspective.

From an evolutionary standpoint point we are wired to look for danger, hence why we have a tendency to see things under a negative light. We are aware of what is scary, uncomfortable, stressful, etc. Which can be challenging when we don’t stop to question some of our thoughts and beliefs.

We have about 6000 thoughts a day. They are all valid, but not all are true.

What are some thoughts you’d like to reframe?

The way we think and talk about our experiences matters!

In narrative therapy, we explore how there are often multiple ways of telling the same story. For example, I could talk about my running journey with a focus on injuries and setbacks, or I could talk about it with a focus on the patience, resilience and determination I’ve exercised over the years. I could tell you about I’m not as fast as so and so, or tell you about my bib and medal collection.

Focusing on our strengths, growth and silver linings is not a way of erasing our difficulties or pretending like things aren’t really hard sometimes. It’s a way of seeing the full picture. A way of feeling empowered and trust in our sense of agency.

Things are often more than they seem. 🏃🏻‍♀️
