Is that mole safe? 🧐 Learn to spot the signs of dangerous moles early!

Your skin is your largest organ, and knowing how to check it can be life-saving. We're breaking down the essential ABCDE rule for detecting melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer. Early detection boosts survival rates to 99% when found before it spreads to lymph nodes!

Here's what to look for with the ABCDEs:
• A - Asymmetry: One half doesn't match the other.
• B - Border: Edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred.
• C - Color: Multiple colors or uneven shades within the mole.
• D - Diameter: Larger than 6mm (pencil eraser size), though some can be smaller.
• E - Evolving: Any changes in size, shape, color, or new symptoms like itching or bleeding.

Beyond ABCDEs, watch for:
• The "Ugly Duckling" sign (a spot that looks different from others).
• New moles appearing after age 30.
• Any non-healing sores, bleeding, oozing, or painful moles.
Know your risk factors! Fair skin, light hair/eyes, a family history of melanoma, and a history of sunburns increase your risk.
Protect yourself!

✅ Perform monthly self-examinations, checking your entire body (don't forget scalp, palms, soles, and under nails!).

✅ See a dermatologist immediately if you notice any ABCDE signs, new or changing spots, or any concerning symptoms.

✅ Practice sun safety: Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily, wear protective clothing, and seek shade.

☀️ Do you actually know what the UV Index means?

It’s not just a random number in your weather app! The UV Index tells you how strong the sun’s rays are—and how fast they can damage your skin.

➡️ 0–2: Low risk, but SPF is still smart.
➡️ 3–5: Moderate risk, grab sunscreen & shades.
➡️ 6–7: High risk, burns can happen in under 30 mins!
➡️ 8–10: Very high, time to find shade & reapply SPF.
➡️ 11+: Extreme—avoid long exposure if you can.

🎥 In this video, we break it all down—so you know exactly how to stay safe while enjoying the sun this summer!

Do you actually get melanoma from the sun? The short answer? Yes.

Here’s the thing—UV rays from the sun (and tanning beds) damage your skin cells’ DNA. Over time, that damage builds up, and in some cases… it turns into melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

it’s not just about sunburns. Even everyday sun exposure, like walking your dog or sitting on a patio, adds up. And cloudy days? UV rays still get through—about 80% of them.

The good news? Melanoma is one of the most preventable cancers. Sunscreen. Hats. Shade. Avoiding tanning beds. Small habits now = major protection later.

Tag someone who still thinks sunscreen is optional. 🧴☀️
