Cemetery Terms
What are Interment Rights?

Families will often talk about their cemetery plot, using the phrase: “who can go into the family plot.” When the rights to a plot or parcel of land are purchased, it is not the land that is being bought, but rather the rights to use this land for burial. Families are essentially buying burial privileges for an identified plot of land.

Interment rights are identified on a Certificate of Interment Rights which is given to a family following the purchase of a location at the cemetery. These rights specify the location or ‘address’ of the plot, the area of land (so many square feet or meters) and how many interments are permitted at this location. This is a legal document and the person or persons who are listed on the Certificate are responsible to make decisions concerning the plot. They decide who is interred and where, and also decide on other matters such as memorialization.

Some families provide cemeteries with decisions made concerning how the plot is to be used. They will assign burial privileges to certain individuals for each grave; this record, essentially becomes a master plan for the plot.

When purchasing a cemetery location, it is important to ask cemetery representatives about not only immediate needs, but also how the plot can be used in the future. This will help make sure the family’s needs over time are addressed.

Finding Calm

We live busy lives which have highs and lows. We face emotional times, challenges and deal with stress. Sometimes, making a commitment to ourselves to take the necessary time to regenerate and heal is difficult.

Experts recommend a regular routine that includes a dose of self-care without distractions. Everyone will have their own definition of finding calm. Some listen to soft soothing music, some light aromatic candles, some take a hot bath or a massage, and others practice self-care such as a daily ritual of meditation.

Being one with nature, getting some fresh air or feeling the warmth of the sun are still other ways to find calm. Positive affirmations can replace anxiety. The goal is always to find peace and to distance oneself from the stress life can create.

Finding calm is making time for yourself. Do it today. You deserve it.

Tour of Our Facilities

Yes, you’ve probably driven by our funeral home many times and you are well acquainted with how our building looks from the outside. On the other hand, unless you’ve been to a service for a family member or friend at our location, it is unlikely that you know what the inside of our facilities looks like.

Over the years we have always strived to meet the needs of our community and we are continually making improvements to our location and the services we offer. An example of this is our use of high-tech video capabilities to provide up to date services to the families we serve.

The overall atmosphere of our funeral home has transitioned over time. Contemporary colours, flooring choices and furnishings all lend to a service which is better suited to meet the needs of today’s families.

If you have been considering using our facilities and services for a family member or yourself, and if you wish to have an in-person tour of our facilities please contact us. We will arrange a convenient time to meet where in private we can show you around. It is always best to call beforehand, just to make sure the building is not being used at that time for a funeral service.
