🎤 DOLLY DAY! 🎤

Last Friday, we celebrated “Dolly Day” in the home, where residents were 9-to-5-ing the fun all day long in honour of the one and only Mrs. Dolly Parton! ✨

Our morning was filled with Dolly trivia, where residents put their Queen of Country Music knowledge to the test while learning more about Dolly Parton’s incredible life, music, philanthropy, and lasting legacy.

We then turned things up in the afternoon with a “Parton Party” featuring our fabulous musical guest, Heather! Residents were seen tapping their toes, singing along karaoke-style, and proving that it takes a lot of love—and a little bit of Dolly—to make a party this good! 💃🕺💖

A huge thank you to all the families and staff members who came out to make the day one to remember for our residents!

We were delighted to welcome some very special visitors from Mighty Oak Labradors to our home on August 26th! 🐾

These adorable 7-week-old puppies came by to spend time with our residents and, in turn, captured plenty of smiles, laughter, cuddles and joy along the way. There’s something truly special about the comfort and happiness they bring to each resident.

A heartfelt thank you to Mighty Oak Labradors once again for making these beautiful moments and memories possible for our residents, families and staff members!

We are so grateful for the love, joy and puppy cuddles you shared with us! 🐶❤️

💛🍋 Our residents had a wonderful time celebrating National Lemon Day two weeks ago with an afternoon full of delicious treats, fun activities, and great company!

Everyone enjoyed a variety of freshly baked lemon-inspired desserts, including lemon meringue pie, lemon crinkle cookies, lemon Jell-O, and lemon cake. A special thank you to the Ralph family for sharing their friend, Jan McGuire, from Green Valley Arizona lemon cake recipe, which was enjoyed by our residents and their families.

The celebration also featured a live demonstration on how to make freshly squeezed lemonade, along with lemon-themed trivia that kept everyone engaged and smiling throughout the afternoon.

It was a refreshing and memorable way to celebrate National Lemon Day, and we're grateful to everyone who squeezed in the afternoon with us! 💛🍋

☀️💧 Summer Sips with an IPAC Twist! 💧☀️

To beat the heat (and learn a little along the way!), our team put their creativity to the test in our Water Tasting Competition inspired by our Bug of the Month: Legionella.

One of the best ways to help prevent Legionella growth is by running taps that aren’t used regularly to keep fresh water flowing—so what better excuse to create some delicious infused waters?

Our judges had the tough job of choosing their favourites, and after lots of sipping, our top three were:

🥈 Tropical Twist
🥉 Saffron Stabilizer (packed with health benefits!)

A huge congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who participated. We had an amazing time tasting all the creative entries, and we’re looking forward to enjoying these refreshing recipes all summer long!

What an incredible start to our new Intergenerational Summer Program! ☀️

Last Tuesday, O.C.C. proudly welcomed 8 amazing student volunteers who will be spending their summer connecting with our residents before beginning high school this fall.

During orientation, the students learned about Residents’ Rights, the Volunteer Bill of Rights, proper PPE procedures, safe techniques for assisting residents with mobility devices, and effective communication strategies for supporting individuals living with dementia.

Following orientation, everyone enjoyed spending time together by making delicious naan bread pizzas for lunch 🍕, participating in our “Big Bloomers” activity, and enjoying freshly picked strawberries from Rochon Gardens 🍓 with angel food cake and ice cream. 🍰🍦

Throughout July and August, our residents and student volunteers will continue to connect every Tuesday, building meaningful relationships, creating lasting memories, and learning from one another. These intergenerational connections are truly something special!

We can’t wait to share more highlights from this wonderful new program. Stay tuned! 😊
