Speech Meta Therapy Services Speech Meta - A name with meaning. The word “meta” in the name reflects our vision of empowering our children and families to think beyond language.

⭐️Multilingual Services Available Our team of Speech-Language Pathologists provide assessment and treatment of speech, language, fluency, voice, literacy and social communication skills for children of all ages. We are committed to providing exceptional speech and language services to children of all ages and with different levels of abilities. We believe that successful communicators are those who can reflect on and consciously ponder about how communication works. Through our individualized and evidence-based services, we enable children to develop self-awareness and critical thinking skills as they apply their communication skills. This will help them to succeed both academically and socially across different settings.

Last fall, we had some fun turning our logo into a pumpkin. 🎃This year, let’s have a little fun with “META.” 🍂

We chose the name Speech Meta many years ago (before FB changed its name to Meta 😅). It was inspired by METAlinguistics and METAcognition: thinking about language and thinking about how we think. It’s a reminder to always think beyond speech!!

This Thanksgiving, let’s think beyond the letters! What other words can you make using all four letters in META?

If you guessed TEAM or MATE, congratulations! Your anagram skills have earned you a day off today! 🎉

And those two words mean a lot to us.

We’re so thankful for our teammates, including our therapists, admin staff, volunteers, families, clients, fellow professionals, and community partners. It’s a privilege to work alongside you, learn from one another, and support each other along the way. 🍂❤️

As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re reflecting on the people we’re so thankful for at Speech Meta. ❤️

One of those people is Fiona Slade, who has been a wonderful mentor to our RASP ladies over the years, supporting their growth as clinicians!

Some of us had the privilege to work with Fiona S in person for many years in the past! Although Fiona has moved away, she continues to provide mentorship to our Speech Meta team. Here’s a little throwback to a lunch we had together with Fiona S to thank her for her support and it was so lovely for the ladies to connect with her in person! There were two cute babies there too! 👶🏻👶🏼❤️❤️

How do you feel when you enter a room? Excited, curious, shy, overwhelmed? Or, a little of everything? ❤️

There are so many ways to ENTER a ROOM! This newly published book by Madaleine Harris Chan, beautifully illustrated by Dawn Lo, recognizes and respects how differently we can experience social situations. A must-have for our bookshelf! 📚

At Speech Meta, our speech therapists explore these experiences with our kiddos in social groups and individual therapy, helping them express their feelings, understand different perspectives, and find comfortable ways to connect with others.

We’re excited to add this book to those conversations! ♥️

Did you know that Speech Meta has over 50 therapy groups running across our two clinic locations in Vancouver and Richmond?!

We LOVE group therapy and see so much value in bringing clients together to learn, connect, build confidence, and work on various skills in meaningful ways!💭💬

From our littlest learners to teens and beyond, we love seeing the friendships, connections, and growth that happen in our groups. There’s something so special about learning alongside peers!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30) is a day of remembrance and reflection in Canada. It honours Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities forever impacted. 
 
The phrase “Every Child Matters” is a powerful reminder that every child’s life holds value, including those who were lost and those who continue to heal from the trauma of residential schools. 
 
This day calls on all of us to listen, learn, and take meaningful action toward understanding, justice, and healing. 
 
Wearing orange is one way to show support and solidarity, but true reconciliation asks more of us. It means continuing to educate ourselves, uplifting Indigenous voices, and committing to real change.

In pediatric speech-language therapy, the activity matters, but it is the clinical reasoning behind HOW and WHY it is used that gives it purpose.

Ali, one of our SLPs, prepared a slime-making activity for a client she recently started seeing. On the surface, it looks like such fun play, and yes, that is part of the goal, but it is not all!

As the client was initially shy, Ali used her interests in art and sensory play to help her feel more comfortable and encourage natural communication. Through the stories shared, Ali gathered a valuable language sample while also observing how the child followed directions, sequenced steps, organized materials, and solved problems! 🤩

Together with other assessment tools, this information helps identify individualized communication goals for the child. ❤️

Saturdays at Speech Meta! ☀️

One of the things we love most about private practice is the flexibility it gives us to meet families where they’re at. 🤍

Families need access to services outside of traditional work and school hours, and private practice allows us to offer exactly that. After-school appointments, evenings, weekends, and even holidays!

In fact, Saturdays and Sundays are some of our busiest days of the entire week! 🥹 We love being able to offer more options and make services more accessible for the families we work with.
