Are your vestibular skills keeping pace with concussion care? 🤔

The latest Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport recommends cervicovestibular rehabilitation when dizziness, neck pain and/or headaches persist.

So here’s a question worth asking:
What have you done to level up your vestibular assessment & treatment skills? 🧠

The VOMS is a useful screening tool, but it is only a screen.

If a patient becomes dizzy during VOMS testing, what comes next? 👀

Can you determine why they became symptomatic? Can you assess the vestibulo ocular reflex beyond symptom provocation? Identify peripheral versus central findings? Assess positional vertigo? Recognize when the cervical spine, migraine, visual system or other factors may be contributing?

And, most importantly, can you use those findings to develop a targeted treatment plan?

As concussion care continues to evolve, simply identifying that a patient has “vestibular symptoms” isn't enough. We need the clinical skills to investigate them.

Come join us in Calgary 🇨🇦 this November for our Vestibular Therapy Foundations Course for Health Care Providers.

We’ll build the practical assessment and treatment skills you can take back to the clinic and start using with your patients. 🙌

How many of these Saskatchewan facts did you already know?

⚛️ 1. Saskatchewan has the highest-grade uranium deposits on Earth. Uranium fuels nuclear energy, while nuclear technology also helps produce life-saving medical isotopes.

🌱 2. Canada is the world's largest exporter of potash, with nearly all of it produced in Saskatchewan. If you use fertilizer in your garden, you may have Saskatchewan to thank.

🏒 3. Saskatchewan has historically produced more NHL players per capita than any other Canadian province or U.S. state.

🌲 4. Nearly half of Saskatchewan is covered by boreal forest, and the province has over 100,000 lakes.

👥 5. Despite covering almost 652,000 km², only about 1.25 million people call Saskatchewan home.

🦖 6. The world's largest known T. rex, Scotty, was discovered near Eastend, Saskatchewan.

🌾 7. Saskatchewan is a world leader in producing canola, lentils, dry peas, durum wheat, and mustard, helping feed millions of people.

🌌 8. Saskatchewan's dark night skies make it one of Canada's best places to see the northern lights and stars.

❤️ 9. Canada's publicly funded healthcare system began in Saskatchewan under Tommy Douglas.

🐰 10. In Saskatchewan, we don't wear hoodies, we wear bunnyhugs. It's a word rarely heard outside the province... and yes, we think everyone else is wrong. 😄

💚 BONUS FACT: Saskatchewan's southern border with the United States lies along the 49th parallel. Because our clinic is located north of that border, we are proudly called North 49 Physical Therapy. 🇨🇦

The weather's been heating up... and so has the competition! 🏌️⛳

After burgers at Fudd's last night, the North 49 team took our rivalry to the mini golf course. 😄 Safe to say, we're a competitive bunch, but we always have a great time together, both inside and outside the clinic.

We hope you're getting out and enjoying everything summer has to offer with family & friends! ☀️

🎉 Congratulations to Chad! 👏

Earlier this year, Chad successfully completed all the requirements of the Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Competency-Based Course through Duke University. He recently received his certificate, and we're excited to recognize this outstanding achievement.

This internationally recognized program is known for its rigorous, competency-based, evidence-informed approach to assessing and treating dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders. Successfully completing it reflects Chad's dedication to continually expanding his clinical knowledge and providing exceptional care for his patients.

At North 49, we're committed to lifelong learning. Chad is one of several clinicians on our team who have completed this comprehensive training because we believe our patients deserve care that is grounded in current evidence, clinical reasoning, and hands-on expertise.

Congratulations, Chad, on this well-deserved accomplishment! Your commitment to professional growth helps more people return to the activities they love with confidence.
