🪦 STRATHROY’S “BLEEDING” HEADSTONE

In Strathroy Municipal Cemetery stands a grave marker bearing unsettling words:

“MURDERED on or about 22nd of Sept 1888”

It belongs to Jonathan Robinson, a retired farmer whose violent death became part of Strathroy’s haunting local history.

According to the story passed down locally, Robinson’s home developed such a frightening reputation after his death that children avoided the property. The house reportedly stood abandoned until it was eventually demolished.

But the legend didn’t disappear with the house.

Local folklore claims that Robinson’s headstone occasionally “bleeds,” showing a reddish colour. A supernatural sign? Natural staining? The legend offers one explanation; the stone itself offers no answers.

Behind every ghost story is a history—and sometimes, a real person whose tragic end deserves to be remembered.
