I’ve been thinking about how quickly we sort movement into hard or easy.

As though the value of a class can be measured by how wrecked you feel after it.

I don’t really believe that anymore.

Sometimes the work is strength. Sometimes it’s mobility. Sometimes it’s staying in one place long enough to notice how quickly you want to leave.

A good practice can be demanding without being dramatic.

And honestly, I think that’s the part I’m most interested in now.

Acupuncture-curious but still thinking, yeah but… needles?
Fair.

If your main reference point is bloodwork or vaccines, acupuncture can sound like a hard sell. The needles are tiny, the experience is usually much quieter than people expect, and most people are surprised by how little there is to “do.”

You lie there, maybe feel a pinch or some tingling, maybe get sleepy, maybe think about dinner. And if something feels uncomfortable, you say so and we adjust.

No bravery required. Just curiosity.

A long weekend doesn’t need to be packed to feel full.

A class. An appointment. A little time in the sun. A little less rushing from one thing to the next.

We’re here all weekend, with space to move, soften and take care of what’s been asking for your attention.

Swipe for what’s on.

We’re taught to think in appointments. Fifty minutes. Sixty minutes. Seventy-five.

But people don’t experience care in neat blocks of time.

Sometimes it begins before you walk into the room. Sometimes it settles in afterwards, over an unhurried conversation or a quiet moment before stepping back into the rest of your day.

I don’t think yoga is about getting better at poses.
I think poses give us a place to practice.

To pay attention.

To listen instead of force.

To trust our breath.

To understand our body a little more deeply.

To share the experience with other people who are practicing, too.

That isn’t separate from yoga.
That is yoga.

Rest helps.

But sometimes the thing you’re carrying needs language.
A witness.
A boundary.
A pattern interrupted.

Therapy is a place to put it down long enough to see it clearly.

Talk Therapy is available at Slow Medicine Company.

A little studio manager appreciation moment.

Tyrone has been holding down the desk, the details, the schedules, the questions, the class cards, the “wait, how do I book that?” moments… all with his usual calm.

Slow Medicine runs on a lot of quiet care behind the scenes.

This is some of it.

Most people come alone.
And almost everyone worries about it.

Every year I get some version of the same question:
"I'd love to come, but I don't know anyone."

The truth is, most people don't.

People join us from different cities, different careers, and different stages of life. By the second day, nobody is really talking about that anymore.

They're talking over breakfast.
Sharing stories over dinner.
Getting lost in the Medina.
Making plans to meet for coffee when they get home.

This September will be our fourth retreat in Morocco.
After four years, watching a group of strangers become a community is still my favourite part.

If you've been curious about retreat but worried about coming alone, you're in very good company.

Can you tell the difference between effort and struggle?

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

Effort is part of being alive. Building a business. Raising children. Learning a new skill. Showing up for a relationship. Moving through a difficult season.

None of those things happen without effort.

But struggle is different.

Struggle often shows up when we’re fighting reality, trying to control what can’t be controlled, or carrying more than the moment actually requires.

The challenge isn’t to avoid effort.

It’s learning where our energy is useful, and where it’s simply being spent.

Sometimes the most important question isn’t “Can I do more?”

It’s “What is this effort for?”

Tuscany, recently.

A few moments from a week of yoga, long meals, afternoon walks, conversations, sunshine and not much urgency.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Morocco is next.
September 18-24.
