We are proud to partner with Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority and Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre to bring regional and provincial expertise together, address gaps in access to cardiovascular specialty services and support culturally appropriate, community-driven health solutions.

"This collaborative approach allows for culturally safe and responsive specialty care that is delivered closer to home, connecting the community to innovation from Toronto," says Dr. Heather Ross, Cardiologist at UHN. "This means earlier diagnosis, better managed heart failure, and a meaningful and ongoing relationship with First Nations peoples, SLFNHA, SLMHC, and providers in the region."

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and quality of life for individuals and families across the region, while addressing the higher rates of cardiovascular disease experienced by First Nations populations.

Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), and University Health Network (UHN) are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that formalizes a collaborative partnership to enhance cardiovascular care for First Na...

In cardiac surgery, perfusionists play a critical role by managing heart and lung function during complex procedures.

This National Perfusion Week, we thank Sehaj and all perfusionists for the expertise and precision that make advanced cardiac care possible.

This National Perfusion Week, we’re recognizing Sehaj, a cardiovascular perfusionist at Toronto General Hospital.

Since joining UHN three years ago, Sehaj has supported fast-paced cardiac and thoracic surgeries and operated life-sustaining technology in the ICU to help improve patient outcomes.

“We have an incredible team! Everyone goes above and beyond to get through the most difficult moments together,” says Sehaj.

Thank you to all perfusionists across UHN for the skill, teamwork and compassion you bring to patient care every day.

At UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, innovation is helping extend specialized cardiac care beyond hospital walls.

Cardiologist Dr. Heather Ross has developed a portable “hospital in a Pelican case,” equipped with Health Canada‑approved tools that allow cardiac teams to deliver heart failure care in northern communities, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for testing and monitoring.

Can smartwatches detect early signs of heart failure? ⌚🫀

A new study by researchers at UHN’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research suggests that daily smartwatch measurements can provide early warning signs of worsening health and help predict when medical care may be needed for people living with heart failure.

Congratulations to Drs. Heather Ross, Yas Moayedi, and Chris McIntosh, along with doctoral candidate Yuan (William) Gao and their teams on their cover feature of Nature Medicine.
