It's easy to put your own needs at the bottom of the list.

But here's your gentle reminder:

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish. It's an important part of caring for your family.

And self-care doesn't have to mean a spa day, a weekend getaway, or an hour of uninterrupted peace. (Although wouldn't that be lovely?! 😂)

❌ MYTH: Good parents enjoy every single moment of parenthood.

✅ FACT: Parenthood can include joy, exhaustion, uncertainty, frustration, and growth — sometimes all before breakfast! 😂

You can absolutely LOVE your baby and still...

😴 Wish you could sleep for eight uninterrupted hours.

💩 Not enjoy changing the third diaper blowout of the day.

☕ Dream about drinking an entire cup of coffee while it's still hot.

🥹 Feel overwhelmed one minute and completely melt over a tiny smile the next.

💜 Need a break, even when you love being a parent.

For approximately nine months, your baby experienced warmth, movement, familiar sounds, and closeness inside the womb.

Then suddenly, they're introduced to a whole new world filled with unfamiliar sights, sounds, and sensations!

Your arms are one of their favourite places to find comfort. 🤍

Here's why being held matters:

💜 Comfort & Security: Your warmth, familiar voice, and gentle touch can help your baby feel safe.

🧠 Healthy Development: Responsive interactions and physical closeness support your baby's emotional and social development.

Here are a few essentials to keep nearby:

💧 Water: Staying hydrated matters, especially for breastfeeding parents!

🛋️ Comfortable seating: Choose somewhere supportive where you can relax and position baby comfortably.

As we pull out our cozy blankets, pumpkin-spiced everything, and favourite fall sweaters, let's talk about keeping our littlest family members comfortable.

Canadian fall weather can be unpredictable. One minute it's chilly, and the next you're wondering why you wore a sweater! 😂

Here are some simple tips for keeping your baby comfortable as temperatures change.

👶 Dress in layers: Lightweight, breathable layers make it easier to adjust your baby's clothing throughout the day.

🌡️ Avoid overheating: More layers aren't always better! Check your baby's chest or back of their neck rather than relying on their hands or feet to judge their temperature.

🧥 Pack extras: Heading out for a family adventure? Bring an extra outfit and layers you can easily add or remove.

🤎 Check regularly: Moving between chilly outdoor temperatures, warm vehicles, and heated buildings means your baby's clothing may need adjusting.

🚗 CAR SEAT REMINDER: Bulky winter coats and snowsuits shouldn't be worn under car seat harnesses. Use thin layers and add a blanket over the properly secured harness if needed.

🌙 SAFE SLEEP REMINDER: Keep hats, loose blankets, and outdoor clothing out of your baby's sleep space. Choose appropriate sleep clothing to prevent overheating.
