Before words come… there’s SO much communication happening. 👋💛

Reaching. Looking. Showing. Giving. Waving. Pushing something away. Raising those little arms to be picked up.

These might seem like tiny everyday moments, but they’re actually some of the ways babies tell us what they want, notice and need before they have the words to say it. 🥰

In Week 3: Before Words Come, we’ll explore how to notice and respond to these early communication attempts, how gestures help pave the way for first words, and how simple baby signs can give your little one another way to communicate.

And, of course, we’re keeping it fun! 🎶

Think playful songs, gestures, sounds, bubbles, movement and lots of opportunities to connect.

Because communication doesn’t have to look perfect! It’s about connection, intention and noticing all those little moments your baby is already communicating with you. 💛

✨ Week 3 is just one part of our 6-week Sing Play Say program for babies 0–12 months.

Come Sing. Play. Connect. with us! 🎵

✨ NEW COLLABORATION! ✨

We’re so excited to be teaming up with High Junction Gymnastics for Twinkle Stars — bringing together early communication, music, movement + gymnastics! 💬🎶🤸‍♀️

Each 45-minute class will start with a 15-minute Sing Play Say circle time, where we’ll share a simple speech & language strategy and show you how to use it naturally through songs, movement and play 💛

Then it’s time to MOVE! Your little one will get to crawl, climb, explore and play during the gymnastics portion of the class while you can keep practicing the communication strategy we introduced together.

Because communication doesn’t just happen sitting still … it happens while we’re playing, moving, singing, exploring and having FUN together 💛

What happens at Sing Play Say? 👶🎶

We’re taking you behind the scenes of our 6-week program … one week at a time! ✨

Week 2: Copy Me, Copy You

This week is all about imitation because babies learn so much by watching, listening and copying the people they love. 💛

A little clap, a silly sound, a big smile or a game of copycat might seem simple, but these playful back-and-forth moments help your baby learn to connect, take turns and communicate.

This week, we’ll show you simple ways to encourage imitation through songs and play and how copying your baby, too, can keep those little interactions going. And of course, we’ll sing, play and have lots of fun along the way! 🎶

✨ Can’t commit to all 6 weeks? Drop-in spots are available when space allows!

We’re kicking off our Fall sessions this week, and Week 1 is all about Tuning In: The Power of Connection. 💛

Before babies use their first words, they’re already communicating in so many ways whether that’s through their eyes, movements, sounds, gestures and/or facial expressions.

In our first class, we help parents slow down, notice & interpret those little moments of communication, and learn simple, evidence-based strategies to support early language development. 👶💬

👏 Your baby doesn’t have to clap on command!

Songs like “If You’re Happy and You Know It” are a wonderful way to support imitation, which is one of the 👏🏼 most 👏🏼 important building blocks of early communication 💛

When we sing and model an action (ie., clapping), we’re giving our baby the chance to:

👀 Watch what we’re doing
🧠 Notice and learn the action
👏 Try imitating us
💬 Connect actions with words and meaning
❤️ Share an interaction with us

But here’s the important part:

⭐️your baby doesn’t need to perfectly copy you or at exactly the “right” moment.

In this video, this little one is clapping throughout the song and staying engaged with mom.

And that engagement matters!

Baby is exploring the action, participating in the interaction, and learning through repetition.

✨ Try it at home:

🎵 Sing a familiar song
👏 Model a simple action
⏸️ Pause and give your baby time to respond
😊 Celebrate any attempt to participate
🔁 Repeat, repeat, repeat!

And remember…

⭐️ imitation goes both ways!

If your baby claps, clap back. If they bang their hands together, do it too. When we imitate our babies and follow their lead, we show them that what they do matters and that their actions can create a meaningful interaction with another person.

It’s not about getting your baby to “perform” an action on command. It’s about creating opportunities to connect, watch, imitate and communicate 💛

📢 Join our 6-week parent-baby communication class to learn more language strategies through songs, play and books! Limited spots left!

🎶 5 songs you can use to support your baby’s language development!

And here’s the best part: you don’t need to sing perfectly, and your baby doesn’t need to sing along. 😉

Songs give us a natural way to practice some of the building blocks of communication, including:

👉🏻 tuning in
👉🏻 imitation
👉🏻 gestures
👉🏻 vocal play
👉🏻 turn-taking
👉🏻 early words

Try singing one of these 5 songs and experiment with one simple strategy:

👉 Pause before a predictable word or sound
👉 Pair your words with gestures
👉 Copy your baby’s action, sound or movement
👉 Follow your baby’s interest (ie., repeat the same song if they are loving it)

Your baby’s little look, smile, kicks, sound or gesture are all stepping stones to one day having a conversation with you 💛

Save this post for your next sing-along! 🎵

✨ One simple way to encourage early communication? COPY YOUR BABY! ✨

Imitation is a powerful way to connect and communicate with your little one. 💛

In this video, mom first modelled a fun new action and sound. Baby gave it a try… and then mom copied him! 👄

This creates a beautiful back-and-forth interaction:

➡️ You do something
➡️ Your baby copies you
➡️ You copy them back
➡️ They learn that their actions and sounds get a response!

When we imitate our babies, we’re showing them: “I see you. I hear you. What you’re doing matters!” 🥰

Try it today! The next time your baby makes a sound, facial expression, or movement, copy them and see what happens. You might just start a fun little back-and-forth conversation. 💬💛
