On World Patient Safety Day, we’re highlighting how recognizing the signs of sepsis and responding quickly can make a critical difference in patient safety.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that can affect anyone and progress quickly. Early recognition and effective treatment give people the best chance to survive and recover.

The BC adult guidelines for sepsis management and care have been updated to reflect the 2026 Surviving Sepsis Campaign international guidelines and the latest clinical evidence.

Inpatient acute care teams, ready to put improvement into action?

Applications are now open for the Substance Use with Acute Care Teams Action Series, a new provincial quality improvement initiative for interdisciplinary teams working in acute inpatient units across BC looking to strengthen substance use care.

The first few days of a hospital stay are a critical window to recognize substance use needs early, improve comfort and build trust through early recognition and timely care.

From November 2026 to March 2027, participating teams will learn alongside others and test practical changes focused on:

• Engaging in regular person-centred, trauma-informed conversations about substance use
• Recognizing and responding earlier to substance use care needs
• Building more consistent withdrawal care that supports comfort and patient engagement
• Strengthening safety planning and harm reduction to support safer care
• Testing, learning and adapting changes to work in your local context

No prior quality improvement experience is required. Bring your team’s knowledge, experience and curiosity, and you’ll have access to clinical expertise, quality improvement support, practical resources and peer-to-peer learning along the way.

World Sepsis Day is September 13, and it’s a timely reminder that recognizing sepsis early and responding quickly can make a critical difference.

Health care teams across BC now have updated adult sepsis guidelines, tools and resources that reflect the 2026 Surviving Sepsis Campaign international guidelines and the latest clinical evidence.

The updates are designed to support timely recognition, management and care for people with sepsis across the province.

Reducing administrative burdens in health care takes more than one kind of expertise.

It takes people who can improve complex systems. And people who can help others understand, connect with and act on that work.

Right now, we’re hiring for both, with three opportunities to do meaningful work from right here in BC.

Bring strategy, creativity and strong communications skills to an important, high-profile area of our work. You’ll help shape how we communicate about reducing administrative burdens in health care, while developing strategies, creating content and collaborating with teams and partners across BC.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄
Help improve clinical workflows and develop solutions that reduce administrative burdens in health care. We’re hiring for two positions: one permanent and one temporary to March 31, 2028, with the possibility of extension.
