Happy International “What Matters to You?” Day.

Today is an opportunity to recognize the difference it can make when we ask what matters most to the people we care for, work with and support.

But this question is not just for today. Asking “What matters to you?” throughout the year can help create more meaningful conversations, stronger relationships and more person-centred care.

June is National Indigenous History Month.

It is an opportunity to learn about, honour and celebrate the distinct histories, cultures, traditions, resilience and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in British Columbia and across Canada.

This month, we encourage you to be curious and intentional in your learning. Attend local events, seek out Indigenous-led resources, listen to Indigenous voices and learn more about Indigenous Peoples and histories in your area.

Every learning journey is personal. Approaching it with openness, humility and respect can help create space for deeper understanding.

The application deadline has been extended to Friday, July 3, 2026 for the Navigating Hospital-Associated Deconditioning & Frailty Collaborative.

BC’s acute care system is facing growing pressure. In the last five years, there has been a 14% increase in older adults occupying alternate level of care beds and a nearly 200% increase in people waiting for long-term care.

Hospital-associated deconditioning can contribute to this pressure by leading to loss of function, longer hospital stays and delayed discharge. It is complex, but preventable.

Through the Collaborative, acute medicine and ALC units will receive tailored support from quality improvement and clinical experts, along with curated resources to support change at their site. This work will help improve how hospitals support older adults, while also strengthening care outcomes and access and flow across the system.

Happening next week: From Awareness to Impact: Shaping “What Matters to You?” in BC.

“What Matters to You?” can help create more meaningful conversations between people receiving care and those providing it.

On June 2, join Health Quality BC for an online event focused on how WMTY can become a more consistent part of everyday care in BC.

We’ll explore what is working, what is getting in the way and what supports could help move WMTY from awareness into sustained practice.

Better feedback helps teams learn, adapt and improve.

The Throw Me Some Feedback activity from ATTIC uses a simple, hands-on throwing game to help teams experience how the quality of feedback shapes results.

Across three short rounds, participants move from no feedback, to limited cues, to open coaching. The debrief then helps teams connect the experience to how they give and receive feedback and support at work.
