It’s time to get moving! National Health and Fitness Day is Saturday, June 6. Check out these easy tips from HSC’s very own certified fitness coordinator, Dave Unger, on simple ways to incorporate a workout every day. And you’re welcome to visit Dave, or any of HSC’s other fitness coordinators, at the HSC Fitness Centre, for more ways to amp up your routine.

1. Consistency is key
According to a recent position stand from the American College of Sports Medicine on resistance training, one of the most important principles is consistency. Keep it simple and show up regularly.

2. You can exercise anywhere
The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommends that adults accumulate at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic physical activity each week. This can be achieved in many ways, whether it's cycling, swimming, or simply heading outside for a brisk walk.

3. Make fitness social
If you're a social person, consider joining a fitness class. Exercising with others can make activity more enjoyable and keep you accountable.

Enjoy NHFD your way!

National Indigenous History Month is a time to honour the diverse cultures, experiences, and vital contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and how we can take tangible steps toward reconciliation.

Over the month of June, we are reflecting on the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous people across our health system and on the work being done to improve experiences and outcomes for Indigenous people throughout Manitoba.

By weaving together past, present, and future, we can bring together diverse perspectives and move forward in a good way while honouring the path that brought us here.
