Last Friday, Aidian’s Medical Science Manager, Leena Meriläinen had the opportunity to give a presentation at the Summer School of the Estonian Society for Laboratory Medicine (Eesti Laborimeditsiini Ühing, ELMÜ) in Pärnu, Estonia.

The presentation focused on how C-reactive protein (CRP) point-of-care testing (POCT) can increase diagnostic certainty, support informed diagnostic and treatment decisions, and guide more appropriate antibiotic prescribing. The session also highlighted recent evidence on the use of CRP POCT in children, showing that when CRP interpretation is guided, CRP POCT can safely reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescribing across diverse primary care settings.

How can CRP point-of-care testing support better antibiotic use in children?

Aidian's Medical Science Manager, Leena Meriläinen, recently wrote an article for the journal of the Estonian Society for Laboratory Medicine (Eesti Laborimeditsiin) on new scientific evidence regarding C-reactive protein (CRP) point-of-care testing (POCT) in children.

The article summarises key findings from two large randomised controlled trials published in 2025, COORDINATE and ARON, which evaluated the use of CRP POCT to guide antibiotic prescribing in children with respiratory symptoms or acute illness. Aidian’s QuikRead go CRP test was used in the COORDINATE study.

The new evidence highlights how CRP POCT can help reduce diagnostic uncertainty and support antimicrobial stewardship in paediatric care. The main points of the article are now available in English on our website:

During a Town Hall meeting in Espoo, Torben introduced himself to the team and spoke about his vision for the future. He shared what drew him to Aidian, highlighting the meaningful mission in diagnostics, and shared his excitement about building the next chapter together.

Jesper Mailind, Chair of the Board of Directors of Aidian, also shared his enthusiasm during the Town Hall, highlighting Torben’s strong professional background, as well as his international leadership experience.
