A Wonderful Fun Energy Boost

I have recently been watching ‘The Piano’ which is a lovely television programme featuring amateur musicians and one of the recuring themes within this series is the wonderful beneficial effects that music offers.

Music is marvellous since it changes the mental, physical and emotional energy within and around us and a musical performance can also bring wonderful unity between the musician and their audience.

Think of a rock band blasting out an anthem which lifts the audience who sing and dance along or a very moving piece of music which touches us emotionally and brings a tear to our eye.

Our lovely animals are also known to enjoy the therapeutic effects of music and a great example of this is Classic FMs special soothing classics programme run during firework season for the benefit of our pets.

Now we might not all be able to play a musical instrument and that is okay since singing also has wonderful beneficial effects. Studies have shown that when we sing it not only lowers our stress and anxiety levels, but it also releases endorphins which promotes positive feelings and gives us an energy boost.

And the wonderful thing about singing is that we can do it anywhere, even when we are in the saddle.

So why not dust off some favourite songs and experiment a little by singing them when you are ridding.

This is a lovely way to bring in an extra bit of fun, and a little bit of singing could be a nice addition to working through routine schooling exercises or going through some in hand work with your horse.

And along with some singing, laughter is a great way to settle ourselves and boost confidence and positive energy in times of nerves or anxiety.

When we create positive energy within and around ourselves this is automatically shared with our equine partners and this is just a beautiful thing.

So why not try a little bit of uplifting musical fun, which will no doubt also lead to a spot of laughter and who knows, you may even be able to identify your horse musical preferences.

Supporting Competition Confidence and Performance

Reiki is a wonderful natural, gentle and holistic energy therapy.

It is always a pleasure to provide Reiki support for horses within a competition setting and also to receive client updates about the positive impact that Reiki has been able to have.

I have previously written about the benefits of Reiki in supporting animals through times of change and undoubtedly there are lots of changes involved in travelling and competing a horse.

While some horses cope very well with change of travelling to a new place and the competition environment others can find it more difficult and stressful.

Reiki’s nurturing support gently balances the energy within the horse’s body, and this in turn helps them to feel more balanced, centred and settled within themselves.

When our energy is more balanced and centred, we feel generally better within ourselves, we are more relaxed and we are better able to maintain our focus.

This is exactly the same for our horses, which makes Reiki a wonderful therapy for providing equines with that little bit of extra support which will in turn benefit their confidence and their performance.

If you would like to find out more about Reiki to support you equine within a competition setting, please get in touch or visit my website at Reiki-Lungta.co.uk.

Change Your Perspective – Change Your Energy

Fear and excitement cause the same biological reactions within our body, the only difference is the way that our brain interprets the situation and this ultimately has a massive knock-on effect to how we feel within ourselves.

When we are thinking about a situation for example jumping or taking part in a competition, it is completely natural to feel that pre-event nervous energy. The difficulty comes when that nervous energy spirals to the point where it affects our connection with our equine partner, our performance and ultimately our enjoyment of taking part in the event.

Changing our perspective can be a lovely way of helping to take back control of that nervous energy before it becomes a spiral or even stopping the spiral in its tracks.

I recently tried this technique for a riding exam and the different perspective I came up with was thinking about the feeling I had on Christmas morning when I was a child and the anticipation of going through to sit beside the Christmas tree and open up lots of lovely Christmas presents.

As odd as it might sound this worked well for me as I had done the pre-exam work and preparation, I was now waiting and anticipating the tasks (presents) of the exam itself.

By focusing on that Christmas morning feeling and bringing it forward to the exam situation I felt more in control of my nerves and generally more focused.

The more positive feelings also carried through into the exam itself, making it a more positive experience.

The situation we choose when changing our perspective doesn’t really matter and will be personal to each of us. The important thing is thinking about and really experiencing that lovely positive energy within ourselves while we remember that nice period within our lives and then moving that feeling forward to the current situation.

Within the Reiki world we say that where the mind goes the energy flows so surrounding ourselves with lots of lovely positive energy is always wonderfully beneficial both for us as well as for our equine partners.

Reiki - Supporting Times of Change

Supporting change whether permanent or temporary seems to have been a more common theme recently with some of my animal Reiki clients.

This has included Reiki support for

• a dog during the temporary change of visitors staying within the family home

• a horse who was struggling with the temporary change of his companions leaving
his field to be worked

• the more permanent change of a horse moving to a new home with new
companions

As is the case with ourselves, animals like a settled environment with a settled routine and while some animals cope very well with change others can find it more stressful and more difficult.

Reiki works by gently balancing the energy within the animal’s own body, and this in turn helps them to feel more balanced and centred within themselves.

When we feel more balanced and centred within ourselves, we feel better able to cope with what is happening within the world around us and this is exactly the same for our animals.

I love the gentle nurturing support which Reiki energy can offer animals during times of stress or change, and it is always joyful to hear about the positive effects that Reiki energy has been able to provide.

Thank you Sarah and Vicky Berrisford for another wonderful Reiki retreat, at the Epona Equine and Animal Therapy Centre. Over the past couple of days, I have learned loads and I have had the privilege of spending time with some wonderful people and animals.

Thank you also to Vicky and Beau (pictured below) for the brilliant Riding with Reiki session.

As usual the two-day retreat flew by much too quickly and I am already looking forward to the next one..
