💊 Did you know…?

Every year in England, enough medication is wasted to fill 75 swimming pools! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

According to the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), this amounts to around 3,400 tonnes of wasted medicines, costing the NHS an estimated £480 million every year.

💊 So why are medicines being wasted?
One of the major reasons is over-ordering by patients. Medicines that are ordered but no longer needed cannot be reused and have to be safely disposed of.

🌱 How can you help?

Only order your repeat prescription when you need it, and only request the medicines you actually need.

If you are on eRD (electronic Repeat Dispensing), you don't need to collect every batch automatically. Only collect your next prescription when you need it.

Small changes can make a big difference — helping to reduce medicine waste, save NHS resources and protect our environment. 💚

👉 Before ordering your next repeat prescription, check what medication you already have at home and only order what you need.

💉 MENB VACCINE – BE WISE, IMMUNISE! 💉

The MenB vaccine is now available for a limited time from late July 2026.

🎓 Who is eligible?
• All current Year 13 students (or those of equivalent age)
• Anyone under 25 starting university or moving into further education halls of residence for the first time this autumn

🛡️ Two doses are essential for protection, so if you are eligible, don’t delay!

💚 The MenB vaccine is available at your local pharmacy.

💉 Flu & COVID Vaccination Clinics – Now Open for Booking!

Alnwick Medical Group's autumn vaccination clinics are now available to book online.

📅 Clinic Dates (08:30 – 16:30):
🟢 Saturday 3 October 2026 – Flu Vaccinations Only
🟢 Saturday 10 October 2026 – **Flu & COVID Vaccinations
🟢 Saturday 17 October 2026 – Flu & COVID Vaccinations
🟢 Saturday 24 October 2026 – Flu & COVID Vaccinations

We encourage all eligible registered patients to book with the Practice. We have already pre-ordered vaccines for eligible patients and have your medical records available should we need to refer to them during your appointment.

✅ Who is eligible?
Flu Vaccination
• Adults aged 65 and over
• People aged 6 months and over who are clinically at risk or immunosuppressed (including conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or a BMI over 40) and their household members
• Carers receiving Carer's Allowance
• Pregnant women
• Children aged 2–16 years (school-aged children will usually be vaccinated through school)
• Housebound patients
• Care home residents

*Our flu vaccines contain no egg protein, porcine products or gelatine.*

COVID Vaccination
• Adults aged 75 and over
• People aged 18 and over who are clinically at risk or immunosuppressed and their household members
• Carers receiving Carer's Allowance
• Pregnant women
• Housebound patients
• Care home residents

⚠️ Please note:
• We are unable to vaccinate anyone under 18 years of age for COVID, as we will not be receiving the Pfizer vaccine.
• COVID vaccines cannot be given on an ad hoc basis as each vial must be used in full once opened.

📲 Please book your appointment online or by calling the surgery.

⏰ Please arrive on time for your appointment and wear clothing that allows easy access to your upper arm for vaccination.
