Well… I wasn’t expecting this 🙏

I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected as a finalist in the BAMAN Awards 2026 for the Sunekos by AestheticSource Award for Excellence and Innovation in Medical Aesthetic Nursing ❤️

When I retired from the NHS after more than 30 years in nursing, I honestly didn’t know where this new chapter would take me.

Starting again in a completely different area of nursing has stretched me, challenged me and pushed me well outside my comfort zone at times.

So to have my work recognised like this feels very special.

I’m still learning, still developing and still trying to do the best job I can for the people who trust me with their care.

Today, though, I’m going to enjoy this moment❤️

Weight-loss injections do all the work, right?

Wrong.

Medication can be a very useful tool, but successful weight management is about much more than the injection itself.

It should also include:

choosing the right treatment for the right person

monitoring progress

managing side effects

reviewing dose changes

supporting nutrition and lifestyle changes

preserving muscle as weight comes down

planning for long-term maintenance

The number on the scales is only one part of the picture.

In clinic, I offer nurse prescriber-led weight management with assessment, prescribing where appropriate, regular reviews and ongoing support.

Weight management should be safe, clinically supported and tailored to you.

If you’re interested in weight management, the first step is to complete the consultation form on my website. Once I’ve reviewed it, we can arrange the appropriate next step.

It's strange looking back at this part of my nursing career now.

Working on a nurse-led cardiac ambulance carried a huge amount of responsibility. We assessed critically unwell patients, made clinical decisions and administered emergency, life-saving treatment.

It required knowledge, judgement and the ability to make important decisions under pressure — but also empathy and reassurance for patients and families at what could be an incredibly frightening time.

Looking back, I realise how much those years shaped the nurse I became — and how much of that I still carry with me today.

A very different setting, but still the same nurse.

There is always more to learn.

Last night I attended the Injector Round Table at Dr Bonny Academy, focusing on the complex mid-face.

It was an excellent two-hour session exploring facial assessment, anatomy and injection techniques, with plenty of discussion around how individual anatomy influences treatment planning.

For me, one of the most valuable parts was looking beyond simply where filler can be placed and thinking more carefully about why, when and whether it should be placed at all.

The mid-face is complex, and achieving a natural result starts with understanding the face in front of you rather than following a standard injection pattern.

A really worthwhile evening of learning, sharing clinical perspectives and catching up with colleagues.

When I look back now, I don't remember the exact day I stopped feeling like the new nurse.

There wasn't one.

Confidence arrived quietly.
It grew with every shift, every patient I cared for and every conversation with colleagues who were generous enough to share their knowledge.

Looking back, I realise that confidence isn't something you're given.
It's something you earn through experience, reflection and a willingness to keep learning.

Even now, after more than 30 years in nursing, I still believe that the best clinicians are the ones who never stop learning.
