Supporting our local community through dementia awareness 💜

Signature at Surbiton was delighted to welcome officers from Kingston and Surbiton Metropolitan Police for a Dementia Awareness training session.

Led by Sue Morgan, Residential Care Manager at Signature at Surbiton, the session gave eight local officers a greater understanding of how dementia can affect memory, communication, perception and behaviour – alongside practical guidance on how to support people living with dementia in challenging or unfamiliar situations.

The interactive session explored how small changes in communication can make a significant difference, including using clear and concise language, allowing additional time, offering reassurance, reducing unnecessary noise and avoiding confrontation.

As people living with dementia may come into contact with the police when they are frightened, confused or vulnerable, having a greater understanding of dementia can help officers respond with confidence, compassion and understanding.

We hope this session is the beginning of a strong relationship with Kingston and Surbiton Police, as we continue to work with local organisations and community groups to share knowledge and strengthen support for people living with dementia across the local community.

☀️ Here we go again… another hot one!

With temperatures climbing once more, our teams are busy making sure everyone stays cool, comfortable and – most importantly – hydrated.

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to do that beyond endless glasses of water…

🍉 Plenty of fresh fruit
🍹 Refreshing drinks and mocktails
🍦 Ice creams and ice lollies
🌳 Relaxing in shady spots outdoors
🧴 Sun cream, hats and avoiding too much midday sun

And when it gets a little too warm outside, our air-conditioned communal spaces offer a welcome place to cool down, relax and spend time together.

With drought conditions affecting much of England after an exceptionally hot and dry summer, we’re also being mindful of how we use water while making sure our residents continue to stay properly hydrated.

It might be our fourth heatwave, but our teams have certainly got the hot-weather routine down! ☀️

Stay cool, drink plenty and don’t forget to check in on friends, family and neighbours too. 💧

⚽ An unforgettable evening for two Signature at Hendon Hall residents.

Peter and Edward from our Signature at Hendon Hall home, were delighted to attend a special World Cup-themed event earlier this month, where they met England 1966 legend Sir Geoff Hurst and shared memories of the nation's historic World Cup victory.

With Hendon Hall's own connection to England's World Cup-winning squad, the evening was a wonderful celebration of football, history and bringing people together

A huge thank you to Budweiser Brewing Group and AB InBev for inviting us to be part of such a memorable occasion and for allowing our residents to enjoy such fantastic experiences.

Today is National Self Care Day, and it’s a good reminder that self care doesn’t have an age limit.

For the people who live in our homes, wellbeing is about far more than simply being well looked after. It’s about having the freedom to make choices, pursue interests, enjoy meaningful experiences and continue doing the things that make life feel like your own.

From a favourite treatment and a quiet moment of relaxation, to staying active, spending time with friends or simply having a really good laugh, self care looks different for everyone.

At Signature, we believe that every chapter of life should be lived with purpose, choice and enjoyment. Because looking after yourself isn’t something that stops as you get older. If anything, it becomes even more important.

So today, whatever self care looks like for you, make time for it. You deserve it. ✨
