SENsations Learning Support

SENsations Learning Support SENsations Nest is a registered charity which provides independent school placements for children with complex needs.

We carry out work within schools as well as therapies with children and their families. Some limited assessment slots are also available. Dr Clare Caughey is an Educational Psychologist and Special Educational Needs teacher based in Belfast. She has created SENsations NI in order to provide affordable access to educational psychology support for pupils with SEN. The service now consists of Clare (

psychologist), Sharon (Behaviour Therapist), Leigh (Speech and Language Therapist), Helen (specialist early years teacher), Sue (office manager) and Deborah (youth support). At SENsations NI we provide educational psychology assessments which help to identify conditions such as Dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and other learning difficulties. In addition SENsations provide regular parent training sessions in a variety of areas to help parents with the everyday management of their child's needs. Training areas include overviews of learning disabilities (such as Down's Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia etc), practical strategies to support behaviour management, homework support for pupils with Dyslexia/Dyscalculia, use of I-pad technology to support learners, toilet training & sex education for learners with Autism etc. Specialising in behaviour management and Severe Learning Difficulties, SENsations NI can tailor a package of support to your family's needs, including home intervention support for behaviour, individual or group intervention in areas such as counselling, relaxation and social skills. After school and recreational opportunities for pupils with learning difficulties include sensory stories and play for individuals with complex needs. Call Clare today to find out more about how SENsations NI can help your child.

Summer scheme announcement!!

As part of our ongoing work providing preschool placements for EA pupils with complex needs, we are committed to providing social value to those families and children with SEN.

As part of that commitment , we are delighted to be providing a *FREE 2 week* therapeutic summer scheme for:

- children entering preschool or p1 in September 2026
- who are statemented or are going through the statementing process
- who could benefit from preparation for starting a new specialist placement.

Our scheme is based in The Nest in carryduff. Children will enjoy lots of outside and sensory play, as well as being introduced to common school routines like having snack, circle time, table top activities and sharing space with other children and adults.

Our team have a wealth of experience and are fully committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment which gives your little one a happy and positive introduction to an educational experience.

Places are EXTREMELY limited. Email [email protected] for an application form.

Our team were SO delighted to get this text from one of our proud mummies on Saturday!

Her little guy has been with us just a few weeks, having struggled at a few other schools. This little man doesn’t communicate with words just yet, so you can imagine the excitement for his mum and all of our team to hear he said “hug”! His very FIRST WORD!! And what a gorgeous one to start with!

Hug is a very important word at the nest. Happiness and nurture come first for us.

Well done wee man! We can’t wait to see what else you can do!!

Many of you will know our amazing Sharon, who has been with us since the very beginning.
Sharon is a super talented behaviour therapist, and she and our other good friend Elizabeth have taken the brave step of setting up their own much needed school holiday service.

Thankfully sharon is still with us, working away on other projects, but we wish her and Elizabeth the very best of luck with AUthenTism!!

Sharon and Elizabeth will be running summer schemes this year that I’m sure lots of you will be interested in.

Also watch this space for news of our own schemes which we will let you know more about tomorrow.

In the meantime, please join me in giving the girls the very best of good luck wishes! I know you’re going to do amazing things. X###

Our two newest boys at Sensations Nest, loving life!!

Happiness is always our no.1 goal at the nest. Learning starts at the bottom, and until our pupils are feeling happy, relaxed and safe, the curriculum can wait!

This 👏
All too often we see young people who are felt to be “fine in school”. But they are far from it. They are masking in whatever way they can- people pleasing, burying themselves in academics, trying so hard to fit in that they virtually disappear.
Often these are the young people who end up avoiding school because of the sheer weight of continually masking in order to survive.

We had the loveliest day at Sensations Nest today!

First we had a sensory reading of the story “Dream Snow” by Eric Carle. For this, we had peppermint oil massage, snuggled up with fleecy blankets and water bottles, tasted honey, played under a white parachute of “snow”, took care of our puppet farm animals, listened to sleigh bells and lit up a flashing Christmas tree!

Then we had a very special visit from Mrs Claus and Chip the pony! Our little people were so brave to have a go at everything, and we’ve never seen some of them smile so widely!

Merry Christmas to all 🎄 🧑‍🎄 🎁 🦌 🦄
