Taking on Snowdon. Standing with Samaritans.

On 1 August, colleagues from our Birmingham funeral homes are lacing up their boots to take on Mount Snowdon to raise money for Samaritans.

Representing A Hazel and Sons & E F Edwards Funeral Directors, Dyson Richards Funeral Directors, Roberts & Brain Funeral Directors, G Gibbs and George Webb & Son Funeral Directors, WH Scott & Son Funeral Directors and Asian Funeral Directors , the team will be carrying weighted packs throughout the climb to represent the invisible weight that mental health can place on so many people every day.

As funeral directors, we see first-hand the devastating impact that mental health struggles and su***de can have on individuals, families and communities. That's why we're proud to be supporting Samaritans, whose volunteers are there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offering someone to listen without judgement.

The hot weather this week has been challenging for everyone, and attending a funeral in high temperatures can be especially difficult when you’re already carrying the weight of grief.

Whether you’re attending a service, gathering at the graveside, or spending time with family and friends afterwards, please remember to take care of yourself and those around you.

Here are a few gentle reminders:

💧 Stay hydrated
Bring a bottle of water with you and take regular sips throughout the day. Grief can be physically draining, and the heat can affect you more quickly than you realise.

👗 Dress comfortably
Light, breathable clothing is perfectly appropriate. Looking after your wellbeing is important, and comfort can help you focus on what truly matters.

🌳 Find some shade
If you’re attending an outdoor service or burial, don’t hesitate to move into the shade whenever you need to. A few moments out of the sun can make a big difference.

☺️ Take a moment if you need one
Funerals can be overwhelming emotionally, and the heat can add to that. If you’re feeling unwell, lightheaded, or simply need a breather, it’s okay to step away for a few minutes.

🥰 Look out for one another
Check in on elderly relatives, children, and anyone who may be finding the day particularly difficult. Small acts of kindness can mean so much.

Funerals are never easy, and during periods of extreme heat it’s important to be gentle with yourself. There is no right or wrong way to navigate a difficult day—just do what you need to stay safe and comfortable.

We're pleased to share that Jonathan Walker Funeral Directors is becoming Dyson Richards Funeral Directors.

Over the coming weeks, you may notice temporary signage at our Sheldon branch while we update the external branding.
While the name is changing, the same caring team remains in place and will continue to provide the compassionate support and professional service local families know and trust.

Going forward, this page will represent both our Shirley and Sheldon branches, allowing us to share more local updates, community involvement and support from across both locations.
