One of the biggest misconceptions about tuning forks is that they're purely spiritual or energetic.

Whilst they can absolutely support emotional and energetic wellbeing, there's also a very practical reason they can be so effective.

Everything in the body vibrates.

Your heart has a rhythm.
Your brain produces electrical activity.
Your nervous system is constantly sending signals throughout the body.

Tuning forks work through frequency and vibration.

When a fork is activated, it creates a specific frequency that travels through the body. Those vibrations can be felt by muscles, tissues, nerves and even the nervous system itself.

Think about how music can instantly change your mood.

Or how certain sounds help you relax whilst others make you feel tense.

Your body is constantly responding to vibration, whether you're aware of it or not.

Tuning forks simply allow us to use that principle in a focused and intentional way.

This is why people often notice:
✨ muscles softening
✨ tension releasing
✨ breathing becoming deeper
✨ reduced feelings of stress
✨ a greater sense of calm and balance

It's not because the forks are "fixing" you.

It's because your body is receiving a different signal.

A signal that encourages regulation rather than stress.
Balance rather than overload.

And when the nervous system feels safe, the body can begin to do what it naturally wants to do — heal, recover and restore itself.

This is one of the reasons I became so passionate about tuning forks.

The more I learnt, the more I realised just how incredible the connection is between vibration, the nervous system, and our overall wellbeing.

This is one of the questions I'm asked most often.

People are curious about tuning forks, but they're not always sure what to expect.

The good news is there's nothing complicated about it.

When you arrive, we'll start with a conversation about how you're feeling. Whether that's stress, pain, tension, emotional overwhelm, poor sleep, recovery from exercise, or simply feeling a bit "off".

From there, you'll get comfortable and relax while I work intuitively with the forks.

Some forks are used around the body and some are placed directly on specific points.

As the vibrations move through the body, people often notice different sensations.

Some feel warmth.

Some notice tingling.

Some feel tension starting to melt away.

Some become aware of emotions they didn't realise they were holding.

And some simply feel deeply relaxed.

There is no right or wrong experience.

Your body will respond in the way it needs to.

One of the things I love most about tuning forks is that you don't need to do anything.

You don't need to analyse.
You don't need to fix.
You don't need to force yourself to relax.

You simply allow your body to receive what it needs.

Afterwards, people often describe feeling:

✨ clearer
✨ more grounded
✨ more comfortable in their body

Many clients tell me they sleep incredibly well after a session too.

You don't have to be exhausted before you slow down.

And you don't have to justify looking after yourself.

Rest is a need.
Not a reward.

When most people hear about tuning forks, they assume they're simply a relaxation tool.

And whilst they can absolutely help you feel calm and grounded, that's only part of the story.

Over the years, I've used tuning forks to support clients with all sorts of things.

✨ Stress and anxiety
✨ Tension in the body
✨ Headaches and sinus congestion
✨ Recovery after physical activity
✨ Emotional overwhelm
✨ Nervous system regulation
✨ Inflammation and discomfort
✨ Feeling disconnected or out of balance

The reason they're so versatile is because they're working with the body, not against it.

The gentle vibrations help encourage movement where things feel stuck, support circulation, calm the nervous system, and remind the body how to return to balance.

I've seen clients experience reduced swelling, relief from sinus pressure, less pain, improved mobility, and a greater sense of calm after a session.

Every person is different.
Every body responds differently.

That's why I don't see tuning forks as a treatment for one specific thing.

I see them as a tool that helps the body do what it naturally wants to do — heal, regulate, and find its balance again.

This is why they've become such an important part of my work and why I continue to be amazed by the results clients experience.

One of the things that surprises people most about tuning forks is that the experience isn't really about the sound.

It's about what happens in the body.

Before their first session, many people imagine they'll simply hear a gentle tone and relax.

What they don't expect is to actually feel the vibration moving through them.

Clients often describe:
✨ warmth spreading through an area
✨ tingling sensations
✨ a feeling of heaviness lifting
✨ muscles releasing tension
✨ emotions surfacing unexpectedly
✨ a sense of calm washing over them

Sometimes people can feel vibration in places nowhere near where the fork is being used.

Sometimes they notice a blocked area suddenly feels lighter.

Sometimes they simply say:

"I don't know what happened, but I feel different."

And honestly, that's one of my favourite parts of this work.

Because tuning forks work with the body in such a gentle way.

There's nothing to force.
Nothing to figure out.
Nothing you have to do.

You simply allow your body to receive the vibration and respond in the way it needs to.

I've had clients feel sinus pressure begin to ease during a session.

I've had clients notice swelling reduce.

I've had clients arrive feeling stressed and leave looking visibly different because their whole system has softened.

Every experience is unique because every body is unique.

That's why it's so difficult to explain tuning forks until you've experienced them yourself.

You don't just hear them.

You feel them.

Even when you think you're resting, your nervous system is still taking in information.

It's constantly scanning your environment and asking one simple question:

Am I safe?

When the answer feels uncertain, the body responds.

You might notice:
✨ difficulty switching off
✨ feeling on edge for no obvious reason
✨ shallow breathing
✨ tension in the neck and shoulders
✨ overthinking that won't stop

The problem is that many of us have become so used to feeling this way that we think it's normal.

But being constantly busy, overwhelmed, or in a heightened state of alert isn't how your nervous system is designed to function.

This is one of the reasons I love working with tuning forks.

The frequencies provide a gentle signal to the body. A signal that says:

Slow down.

You don't need to be on high alert right now.

You're safe.

As the body receives that message, people often notice their breathing becoming deeper, their muscles relaxing, and their mind becoming quieter.

It's not about forcing calm.

It's about giving your nervous system the opportunity to remember what calm feels like.

And when that happens, everything else becomes easier.

You think more clearly.
You sleep more deeply.
You respond rather than react.
You feel more like yourself again.

This is why tuning forks have become such an important part of my work. They support the body in a way that words alone sometimes can't.

Before we even speak, your body is already responding to the world around you.

To stress.
To tension.
To noise.
To energy.
To atmosphere.

And it also responds to vibration.

This is one of the reasons tuning forks can feel so powerful, even though they seem incredibly gentle.

The body naturally reacts to frequency. Certain vibrations can help muscles soften, breathing slow down, and the nervous system begin to settle without needing to “force” relaxation.

That’s because your body understands vibration instinctively.

Often during sessions, people notice:
✨ their shoulders dropping
✨ their breathing changing
✨ their mind becoming quieter
✨ emotions shifting without needing words

Sometimes the body responds before the mind has even caught up.

This is why tuning forks work so beautifully alongside the therapies I offer. They help create a feeling of safety and regulation in a really subtle but effective way.

It’s not about doing anything dramatic.
It’s about helping the body remember how to come back into balance.

I recently worked with a client using tuning forks to support painful, swollen knuckles in both hands. The change she experienced was incredible — and this was her message afterwards:

“I had a recent experience with my hands. Two knuckles on each hand… so painful I couldn't pick anything up. After Sarah Jane photographed my swollen knuckles then used the forks, the relief was immense. I could make a fist. I could pick things up. Mostly pain free. Then Sarah Jane photographed my hand again. It's clear to see the swelling had gone down. It was truly amazing. I won't go anywhere else but Sarah Jane for my holistic treatment.”
