The rundown of the Lakeland 50 🏃🏽♀️
Montane
You win some, you lose some.
🏃🏽♀️ Aims: 10:38
❤️🩹 Lex: DNF
Unfortunately, trail running had other plans. Luck plays a huge part in this sport, and just 12 miles in, Lex rolled her already-injured ankle badly. She dug deep and carried on to mile 26 before making the incredibly tough decision to stop.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is know when to call it. After months of training, sacrifices, and dreaming about race day, it’s heartbreaking, but thankfully nothing is broken. Recovery starts now, and onto the next adventure. 💖
Leaving Lex at mile 13 with Scott was one of the hardest parts of the day. Every instinct wanted to stay, but she told me to go, so I did.
By the time I hit Ambleside, my legs were feeling heavyyyyy. There were still around 16 miles to go, but honestly, there’s no better feeling than seeing familiar faces when you’re deep in the pain cave.
When I saw the time heading into the final climb, it lit a fire. I knew it was going to hurt, but I also knew I had to give absolutely everything.
Going into the race, I knew exactly what time I wanted. It was probably the cockiest decision of the year to line up for an ultra with a time goal, but sometimes you’ve just got to back yourself. It doesn’t happen often… but this time it paid off.
I also told my ‘supporters’ if I’m only finishing past 10pm don’t wait for me I’ll be in a mood hahaha!
I crossed the finish line in 10 hours 38 minutes, finishing 13th female overall.
A day of highs, lows, heartbreak, and one goal achieved. That’s trail running. ✨🤌🏼
