Leaving Glastonbury on Samhain, as the sun went down, we drove into fog.
It rose up off the fields and folded around us, lit rose and gold from behind, and everything softened. The fields, the trees, the sheep.
A deep hush came in with it.
And there on the rhyne, a swan.
We stopped. Something opened in my chest and my breath went slow and quiet, the damp cold on my skin.
It felt like the threshold I cross when I journey, only this time it felt like the otherworld had come out to meet me on the road home!
And it was Samhain, the night Caer takes her swan form on the lake in the old Irish tales.
I felt utterly alive, wholly here, the way the land always brings me home to myself. But there was something more this time, something I still don’t have words for.
I felt very small standing there, and very held. And something tender rose up in me, for the swan, for the water and the mist, for all the spirits of this land who walk beside me in this work.
I still feel it in my bones. Feeling much gratitude 🙏🏻
