What happens in a kinesiology session?

Let me explain what actually happens during a Systematic Kinesiology session, because I know it can sound a little mysterious if you’ve never experienced it before!

When you come for a session, we don’t simply focus on the symptom that’s bothering you. We start by talking about you— what you’ve been experiencing, how you’re feeling, your lifestyle, your general wellbeing and anything you feel may be relevant.

I then use muscle testing as a tool to communicate with the body’s nervous system and explore how your body is responding.

This can help me look at different areas of your wellbeing, including things such as:
🌿 physical stress and tension
🌿 nutritional requirements
🌿 digestion and gut health
🌿 energy and recovery
🌿 structural and muscular balance
🌿 emotional stress and patterns

The important thing to understand is that kinesiology isn’t about me telling you what’s wrong with you.

It’s more like having another conversation with your body.

Your body can sometimes give us clues about where it is under stress or where it may benefit from additional support — and we use those responses to guide the session.

I don’t follow exactly the same routine with everyone because everyone’s body and circumstances are different.

Depending on what comes up, I may also incorporate other approaches I work with, such as Bach Flower Therapy, EFT tapping or Reiki.

The aim isn’t to overwhelm your body with lots of things to do.
It’s about finding the smallest, most appropriate steps that feel supportive for you.

And you don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong before you come. Sometimes people simply arrive saying:

“I just don’t feel like myself and I don’t know why.”

That’s absolutely enough of a starting point. 💚

If you’d like to know whether kinesiology might be appropriate for what you’re experiencing, you’re very welcome to message me and we can have a chat.

You don’t have to wait until you’re really unwell to start listening to your body.

We often become very good at ignoring the little signs.

“I’ll be fine.”
“I’m just tired.”
“It’s probably stress.”
“I haven’t got time to deal with it.”

And we carry on. Until eventually our body has to shout a little louder.

What if instead, we became curious about those early signals?

✨ Your energy isn’t what it used to be
✨ Your sleep isn’t restorative
✨ Your digestion feels unsettled
✨ You’re constantly tense or overwhelmed
✨ You feel emotionally drained
✨ You just don’t feel like you

These things don’t necessarily mean something is seriously wrong.

But they may be your body’s way of asking for a little more attention.

Systematic Kinesiology offers a different way of exploring your wellbeing.

Through muscle testing and a holistic approach, we can look at the body as a whole rather than simply focusing on one isolated symptom.

And sometimes the most useful question isn’t:

“What’s wrong with me?”
but:
“What does my body need more of right now?”

That’s the approach I love to bring to English Ivy Wellness. 🌱

What if your body is trying to tell you something?

Have you ever had a niggling symptom that keeps coming back?

Perhaps you feel exhausted, wired but tired, uncomfortable in your digestion, struggling to sleep, feeling overwhelmed, or simply not quite yourself — but you can’t put your finger on why.

Sometimes we spend so much time asking:
“How do I get rid of this symptom?”
that we forget to ask:
“Why is my body responding this way?”

This is one of the things I love about Systematic Kinesiology.

Rather than looking at one symptom in isolation, kinesiology takes a holistic look at you — considering the physical, nutritional, emotional and energetic aspects of your wellbeing.

Muscle testing can give us another way of listening to the body and exploring where it may need support. And sometimes, the things your body is asking for aren’t quite what you expected.

At English Ivy Wellness, I combine kinesiology with approaches such as Bach Flower Therapy, Reiki and EFT tapping, depending on what feels appropriate for you.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach.
Your body, your story and your wellbeing are unique to you.

🌿 If you’ve been feeling that something isn’t quite right but don’t know where to start, perhaps it’s time to look at your health from a different perspective.

Five Signs Your Body Might Be Asking for Support

Your body whispers before it shouts.

Sometimes we ignore those whispers because we’ve become so used to feeling tired or overwhelmed.

Here are five signs your body may be asking for support...
🌿 You’re constantly exhausted, even after sleeping.
🌿 Your digestion never quite feels right.
🌿 You’re living with aches, pains or recurring symptoms.
🌿 You feel stressed, anxious or emotionally overwhelmed.
🌿 You know you’re “not yourself” but can’t explain why.

We often learn to live with these things because they’ve become our normal.

But they aren’t always something you simply have to accept.

Our bodies have an incredible ability to heal when they’re given the right support.

That’s exactly why I love the work I do.

🌺 And something very special is coming to English Ivy Wellness.

I’ve been working behind the scenes on something I’ve wanted to create for a long time - a new way to explore the Bach Flowers as a personal journey.

I’ll be sharing more very soon.

So what actually is Kinesiology?

It’s probably the question I’m asked more than any other.

Systematic Kinesiology is a gentle, holistic therapy that uses muscle testing to communicate with the body.

Every day your body is working incredibly hard to keep you healthy. Sometimes it simply needs a little help identifying where the stress is coming from.

That stress may be physical...
It may be nutritional...
It may be emotional...
Or even a block in energy…
Or it may be a combination of all four.

Using muscle testing, we can begin to uncover the priorities for your body and support it using nutrition, acupressure points, meridians, Bach Flowers, emotional techniques and lifestyle advice.

Rather than asking, “What’s wrong?”

I ask,

“Why is your body struggling to heal?”

Every person is unique, so every treatment is unique too.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens during a kinesiology session, come and have a chat with me at the Wellness & Worth event. Or contact me to book a taster session at my clinic.

I’d love to answer your questions.

✨ I’m absolutely delighted to be part of the Wellness & Worth event on Sunday 27th September at the Aztec Hotel & Spa.

If you’re looking for an inspiring afternoon of wellbeing, connection and self-care, I’d love to see you there. To book your ticket, simply tap the Wellness & Worth link in my bio.

Over the next few weeks, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce myself.

Hi, I’m Sharon — mum of three, grandmother of two, and the founder of English Ivy Wellness, my holistic therapy practice serving Bristol and Bath.

My journey into this work began as a mother, not a practitioner.
When my youngest daughter was diagnosed with ME/CFS at just ten years old, I immersed myself in finding gentler, more natural ways to support her. Through years of learning, trial and error, and celebrating small breakthroughs, I discovered my own calling.

Twenty years later, as a Systematic Kinesiologist, Bach Flower Therapist and Reiki Practitioner, I now have the privilege of helping other women uncover the root causes of what’s really going on in their bodies.

Whether you’re living with chronic illness, post-viral fatigue, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, stress, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, my approach is always to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

If you’re coming to Wellness & Worth, I’d love for you to stop by my stand. Come and say hello, discover how kinesiology works and experience a little of it for yourself.

I can’t wait to meet you.

💚 I’d love to know...what first sparked your own interest in health and wellbeing?
