This , we’re shining a light on why every family deserves the reassurance of hospice care, and why it shouldn’t be left to chance.

After being told there were no further treatment options for her illness, Nicola was referred to the Hospice. Her husband Kevin had been supporting with her care to make her more comfortable, but when the family arrived at our Inpatient Unit, the Nurses told him, ‘You don’t need to worry about any of that now, you can just be her husband.’

Kevin said in that moment, the caring weight was lifted from his shoulders, allowing room for connection, something he and Nicola hadn’t had for months. They had time to be a family again.

In her final days, Nicola and her family were able to spend precious time together where they reminisced about good times. Nicola loved the snow and despite it being March, one afternoon it unexpectedly snowed. The family moved Nicola’s bed over to the window to look across the Hospice Gardens and built her one last snowman. “It was like the seasons were saying goodbye,” said their son, Connor.

Every family deserves that chance. Hospice care shouldn’t be left to it.

Bringing light to our Inpatient Unit ✨

It’s often the little comforts that can help the Hospice feel like home for our patients. For Adrian, it was bringing a galaxy light projector to his room that helped him to feel at ease during his stay on our Inpatient Unit. The lights project twinkling stars and galaxies onto the walls and ceilings.

“I saw the lights on Amazon and they caught my eye. When I came to the Hospice I brought them with me. I have them on during the day and the night. I like the movement of them; it’s a nice distraction. When it’s dark there’s a nice aurora which shines brightly, and even if I wake up during the night, they help to take my mind off things.

“A few of the Nurses commented to say how nice they were, so I bought a few extra lights to donate to the Hospice so that other people can enjoy them too. If someone can get as much enjoyment as I’ve had out of them, then it’d be worth it.”

Join us at our Art Exhibition at the Hospice this Saturday 🎨

3 October | 10:30am - 4pm

We're incredibly proud to showcase artwork created by patients in our Brushstrokes Wellbeing Group. Working across a range of mediums, the artists have generously donated pieces for sale, helping support local patients and families in our care.

Brushstrokes offers a relaxed and supportive space where patients can explore their creativity, learn new skills and connect with others. For many, it's the first time they've painted and drawn in a long while and it will be the first time their artwork has been displayed publicly.

We're proud to stand with Hospice UK and more than 125 hospices across the country for the "This is Hospice Care" campaign, highlighting the importance of Gifts in Wills.

So many of our services are made possible thanks to Gifts that our generous supporters have left in their Will. Did you know?

💛 From 2024-2025, we were able to care for 2,283 patients in their homes. Day and night, 365 days a year, our teams bring end-of-life care into communities across Bristol and beyond.

💛 We support the families and loved ones of patients, too — including children. Our Psychological Therapies team provides therapy group sessions and individual bereavement care.

💛 Hospice care isn't only medical. It can be social, psychological and spiritual too, like our patient Wellbeing groups which help people to live well.

Last night, we were delighted to attend the BBC Bristol Make A Difference Awards at Weston Playhouse, celebrating the incredible people and organisations who make such a positive difference in our community.

Severnside Support Group were among the finalists for the Community Group Award. They've supported St Peter's for more than four decades and have now raised over £400,000 through organising a variety of fundraising activities, including golf days, coffee mornings, musical events and celebrity lunches.

As Kath from the group explained:

"We are fundraising for St Peter's Hospice because we believe so strongly in the ethos of the Hospice movement. We've never asked to be recognised, we've done it because of our loyalty to, and the way we feel, about St Peter's Hospice."

We couldn't be more grateful for their unwavering support, dedication and commitment over the years. 💙

The Nature of Grief drop in explores lightly guided nature based practices for adults who've lost a loved one to an incurable illness. It's a space to learn about grief and get support from experienced and compassionate Psychotherapists and Practitioners in an outdoor setting.

Spending time in nature can help bring moments of calm, invite quiet reflection, and offer a safe space for the complex feelings that come with grief. You don’t have to have been supported by St Peter’s before to join the groups and you’re welcome to drop in on the day.
