This Carers Week is about recognising and raising awareness of the challenges unpaid carers face and the contribution they make to families and communities every day.

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming at times. Sometimes, a little breathing space is just what you need.

If you’re a carer living in North Somerset, our Breathing Space for Carers project is here for you. We offer emotional support and gentle strategies to help you find breathing space while caring for a loved one. Because taking care of yourself matters too. Our trained volunteers are here to listen, talk, or simply sit with you – whether that’s in your home, or at a place nearby.

To find out more, call 0117 915 9450 or email [email protected].

Thank you to all unpaid carers, for the difference you make every day.

Do you care for someone living with a life-limiting illness?

You don’t have to do it alone. We’re here for you every step of the way.

This week is Carers Week, and this year’s theme focuses on ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’, highlighting the difference supportive communities can make to carers.

We’ll be at the free Caring Matters event tomorrow with Carers Support Bristol and South Gloucestershire where you can come and chat to us, ask any questions and learn more about the support we provide. There’ll also be interactive sessions, lunch and more. Carers are welcome to turn up on the day.

Across our Retail Team, including our 45 shops, warehouse, eBay and online shop, we have 1,200 volunteers who are absolutely essential to keeping them running. Last year the shops raised over £1.7m for the Hospice, which wouldn't be possible without incredible volunteers, just like Matthew.

Our fabulous fundraising volunteers are the life and soul of all our events. From marshalling to bucket collecting, handing out medals and cheering on participants - our volunteers make a real difference. 💙

We spoke to Danni and Emma recently at Tour de Bristol, about why they volunteer.

Danni said: "St Peter’s has helped family and friends so I thought if I can give my time every year to help events raise more money then that’s great. Tour de Bristol is my favourite event to volunteer at. We have an early start but then get to see the cyclists at the finish line, feeling really proud of themselves. It’s nice to have that moment and hand them their medal, and everyone feels really proud of each other."

Emma said: "I started volunteering six years ago, just to have the opportunity to do something good. It’s the least I can do, to volunteer my time for such a great cause. The events are always great - everyone is there for such lovely reasons. They have smiles on their faces and want to be there to do something good."

Thank you to our incredible Great Bristol 10k & Half Marathon 2026 runners! 🏃‍♀️

Last month, thousands of runners took to the streets of Bristol for this year's Great Bristol Run, many of them choosing to raise money for the Hospice.

We're so proud of and grateful for everyone who slipped on their trainers and put their best foot forward to raise money for the Hospice. Together, our team raised over £64,000 — that's enough to keep the Hospice running for two days!

Places are already open for next year's race. Book yours at https://www.stpetershospice.org/support-us/join-our-events/great-bristol-run/

We caught up with some of our Gardening Volunteers for Volunteers' Week. The gardens are crafted to be a therapeutic place for patients and their families to enjoy all year round. It wouldn't be possible to keep them flourishing without the hard work of our amazing team of volunteers.

Volunteers' Week starts today - a time to celebrate and recognise everything volunteers do.

We can't say thank you enough to our incredible 1,600 volunteers. Put simply, the Hospice could not run without them. From steaming clothes in our shops, to driving patients to appointments and handing out medals at our events - their compassion, hard work and dedication mean we can be there for everyone who needs us.
